kossai is very visual . there is one bare minimum that need to connect with any given courtier effectively , and that is picture . take concentrated effort to establish hook without picture , and so that is first part of record someone new - if not full picture , then at least description of traits to build one later .

of course courtiers with multiple regular forms can throw spanner , but usually prioritise preferred form , " generic form " that encapsulate most common traits like hair colour or number of fingers , or if practical to do so , include all forms - exact approach is down to courtier preference .

often kossai make these pictures , no harm no foul there . where things can get more dicey is when find random pictures which line up incredibly well with someone . sometimes this picture is specific character , and courtier's identity line up with stated character whether mainstream or niche .

sometimes , identity do not line up , but still look similar enough to adopt picture . even if redraw with that courtier's specific personal quirks , will still look very similar . ( one courtier , for example , use picture of mass-market BJD - only major difference is that add rabbit ears . )

in any case this all pose another good reason for anonymity and non-reveals - people show up and exist regardless . can not just change essence of self to avoid violation , but can avoid public connection and identification . fortunately already prefer that anyway , but real shit predicament for collectives who prefer publicity . risk use of true-to-heart pictures , or come up with some cover form that is less comfortable ?

just think about why , in first place , front have time limit for kossai . everyone is little bit different , but general threshold is 2 or 3 hours . can stay beyond this technically , but will increase in agitation and exhaustion exponentially . sometimes can extend threshold with favourite activities and comforts , but still not infinite .

think ought to borrow from changeling the dreaming again here , banality - actions and ideas which suppress faerie glamour and selfhood . there is level of banality this human world demand : language , for one . social interaction that do not , whether inadvertently or purposefully , hurt others . ability to curb impulses , sometimes even kind ones . rules to follow for what appropriate human conduct look like . 

part of what eira provide is baseline tools to handle these needs of banality . even courtiers with low language use can , if necessary , lean on eira to provide - at cost of temporarily mangle self . but even when individual meet or exceed eira's baseline , these tools still hurt to use , still wear out .

favourite things can help with rejuvenate and shake off some of banality , especially when able to engage without language use . but sometimes that is harder than sound - might need to look up crochet stitch tutorials , or read from pattern and interpret words into actions . sometimes others talk too much , and then have to compensate and drown out - sometimes only thing that can drown out words is other words .

can also try to trance out , meditate , enter states that ought to be less banal - but unless circumstance is perfect as is , eira is always ready and on guard to kick back in , so rarely get to feel full effects . sometimes can be so much of fight that ultimately feel worse after try .

and this is on top of also have to face physical pains , several marginalised positions in society , plus traumas and safeguards which arise from those . these things too contribute to banality . 

everyone , eira too , is always faerie . where struggle is in all of these banal needs to navigate world of humans . eira can provide tools , but can not negate . this is what give limits in front - any courtier can only handle for so long , even in ideal circumstances . in that case , large population is essentially blessing - anyone can have turn around front , and then still have lots of time to rest before next one .

while polyfragmentation is not always easy to define , and communities may adapt in ways psychiatric literature do not account for , do believe in importance of keep some kind of barrier between polyfragmentation and large population - collectives can be large even without polyfragmentation , and small even with polyfragmentation .

something that never really take individual note of before is front threshold . know general rule is about 2-3 hours before too tired and cranky to continue , but some courtiers can go beyond that . sometimes this is just personal extension , like someone who can go 4-5 hours regularly , but other times this tie to ... well , happiness ! 

so that is just another reason for everyone to note down some of favourite activities and things . of course some of this is not controllable or accessible , like ... personally feel most comfortable and refreshed when all swampy and wet , but not every day is shower day and also do not have access to water parks , so often can only handle lower threshold . but , if have these things on note , then can recognise why hit threshold and be nicer to selves ! ( sometimes might try and push past threshold just to reach comfort , but by then comfort can not do very much to help , so then just feel bad that even comfort manage to fail and turn into whole cycle of blah . )

plurality and transgender identity honestly exist as similar frameworks , like . at first brush , there is medicalised definition . this definition still exclude plenty of experiences , and to be very clear , even in medical fields there is argument of how to treat . some want to give full support , some would say with cautious acceptance but not too radical , others would say total elimination of this " broken core " by any force necessary .

medicalised plurality : diagnosis of DID/OSDD , extreme amnesia and dissociation , must be viewed as one fractured self

medicalised transgender identity : diagnosis of gender dysphoria , extreme depression and suicide risk , must be viewed as mind-body mismatch

some people fit these definitions . some of those people still get denied help , because simply not " severe enough " , or happy existence seem too exaggerated and unreal . community definitions can be looser , though will still find corners of communities that argue for strict medicalised definitions , in hopes to protect place among normal society at large - " normal society " where people may still outcast , but hopefully not too badly .

community-defined plurality : someone with multiple people inside of head , usually with switches of front .

community-defined transgender identity : someone with gender identity that mismatch with gender doctors assign at birth .

and yeah , these can work ... better , but there is still lots missing . definitions of plurality that focus on state of total individualisation from one another miss mark for pretty much anyone who is median , as well as anyone who can not switch , anyone who experience roleplay as more-than-muse but still not-quite-other , and anyone who feel that multiple selfhoods exist but not necessarily all at once . not to mention this spring arguments , both internal and external , about how much " personhood " is required to count , and how to even measure this in first place . if someone within collective seem to only display one emotion , is that proof of single-emotion existence , and therefore proof of less personhood , or is there another circumstance at play ?

definitions of transgender identity that focus on difference from assigned gender at birth also miss mark for many , and intersex people especially . someone who is intersex may have birth and legal assignment of one gender , but social treatment as another . perhaps assign one at birth , then later reassign another one in puberty . or grow up effectively degendered , where no one trust in assignment to begin with , outcasted regardless . this is not even to mention how surgical and hormonal treatments get used against intersex people , such that even intersex person who would technically be cisgender under this definition due to surgical force do not feel experience to be cisgender .

of course , all of that can be kind of hard to wrap up in simple talk about simple labels - and think if want to talk about specific experiences , that is not necessarily wrong . but do prefer to view both of these as more umbrellas - these words provide framework to talk about wide array of experiences .

personal framework of plurality : experience of selfhood(s) and/or personhood(s) that may be more than one , not solely one , and/or on boundaries between one-and-many

personal framework of transgender identity : experience of gender that defy expectations of one's legal assignment , societal assignment , social role , and/or one's own past experiences

frankly even these definitions have some kind of rigidity by nature of words , and especially when already struggle with language expression to begin with , but general idea here is this : if someone feel that these words give framework to better understand identity and improve life experience , then should be welcome to use .

maybe this will not turn out to fit right , and that is fine . maybe place within these frameworks will shift , and that is fine . maybe will always remain where first plant flag , and that is fine . there will also invariably be people whose experiences could fit these loose definitions , but feel as if just not right place to be - and that too is fine .
