i know things are hella grim in the nsfw/kink art circles especially in the last year --

but I'm hearing there's a NSFW-friendly ko-fi alternative built on atproto that's actively in the works, and being vetted by lawyers right now. as torrent-princess (OP) says, you should be able to swap out payment processors while keeping your account intact. this matters since even if stripe removes support, you'll still have a shop and all of your links intact. (ATproto is an infrastructure that bsky is built on, but is far bigger than bsky with far more opportunities.)

additionally, the Free Speech Coalition is working on a credit union specifically for adult work (including kink art) - here's the link so you can add your interest & support. Since this will be built by sex workers, there'll be far less risk of being debanked for spurious and puritanical reasons.

on a domain TLD level, there's an initiative here for a .furry domain built from the ground up by seasoned furries; it's unclear whether they'll support NSFW, but it's yet another promising turn of events for a group that's been similarly affected by censorship.

there are friends and allies out there helping to build a working parallel infrastructure. keep being vocal, keep supporting these initiatives when it's possible, and keep supporting your nsfw/kink artists.

When people ask why I spend all this time advocating for fandom in ATproto spaces I will point them at this post 👆

This is why you can support @fujocoded on Patreon: we represent fandom at the protocol level (the part that determines what software can be built), and the work we do is directly responsible for making Apps like this—and way more!—viable in the Atmosphere.

This work can be puzzling and illegible (definitely not as shiny as ✨ a new platform! ✨) —but this is literally what I work on every day, because a better internet is possible, even if what brings it forward isn't always glamorous!

If you want to help: spread the word, and if you can, chip in so we can pay people to do the other advocacy and development work I can't do myself...including explaining to everyone what it means and why it matters!

The $upport people give us is what moves this forward and keeps the technology viable for fandom, artists, and writers everywhere! ✨ We got huge things coming! If you can believe it, a Patreon-like platform is just the beginning of what the Atmosphere (and us!) make possible 👀

PLEASE SUPPORT FUJOCODED! this org is fighting on the front lines for the fandom web on a budget made of hopes and dreams (and me, not to brag or anything). but you don't have to be supporters georg tier to make a difference, every little bit helps!

Thank you, Nia 😭 Vocal support from people matters so much! It's a lot of work to translate what we're doing for fandom, especially now when the fundamental work is so deep down into the protocol.

Like, the "you will be able to swap out payment processors while keeping your account intact"? That's me fighting every day to keep it true, and this 👇 is what that looks like.

To people it's just a puzzling diagram, to me it's jumping on an unexpected call because someone I've been building a relationship with mentioned their proposal for how communities will work on ATproto. So I dropped everything I was supposed to do, and walked them through what we creative communities need from these platforms, including making sure we can walk away.

And if I don't do it, then the "you'll be able to swap out payment processors" gets more and more asterisks and caveats. And success won't be apparent because success means no big company can fuck us up. Success means no one worries. It doesn't directly mean a new platform, it means no one can take what you build on that platform away from you. It means we can walk away from the next Discord without being afraid to lose our friends and spaces. It doesn't "make it", it makes it possible.

I cannot write about it as much because this is what I must use my writing energy on 👇

And we're fixing this! But the tl;dr is that to keep all this possible (and make "the good fight" somewhat sustainable):

  • we need money, so @fujocoded can continue doing visible work while I do the invisible one
  • and ALSO we need people who can explain why this matters to those who trust them.

Anyway, here's wonderwall our Patreon
