Hi all!
After a brief hiatus, I'm starting up the Pick-For-Me Challenge again :)
To sign up, post a comment with a link to your To-Be-Read list (be it on Goodreads, in a blog post, a google document... whatever! as long as it's publicly available). On January 25th I will close the sign-ups and assign a buddy for everybody.
Each person has until February 1st to pick 2 books (main choice + backup) from their buddy's TBR-list that they want them to read for the month of February.
End of February we'll return and talk about the books we've read.
I hope you'll want to play along! :-)
Feel free to spread the word on your own blogs - the more, the merrier :)
(PS: If you'd like to join, but have a busy February ahead of you - no worries, I'll post a March edition of the challenge come February 20th).

Date: 2014-01-26 18:22 (UTC)My back-up pick is "Breakaway: From Behind the Iron Curtain to the NHL--The Untold Story of Hockey's Great Escapes" by Tal Pinchevsky. I've always been fascinated by some of the stories of Eastern European players who fled to the NHL and I might have to put this book on my list now!

Date: 2014-01-28 02:30 (UTC)re: players leaving their country for the NHL -- I read a book, a looooong time ago, about how the Stastny brothers had escaped Czechoslovakia to come to Canada, and it was fascinating; better than a spy novel, if that makes any sense. So when I saw that other book, which is essentially the same types of story (and I expect to find theirs in it, too) I totally had to put that on my list. :)
Anyway...
For you I'm going to pick "One For The Money" by Janet Evanovich. I've read it and really loved this one, so I hope you will as well. :)
As a back-up, "Eight Men Out: The Black Sox and the 1919 World Series" - pretty much for the same types of reasons why you picked the hockey book for me: this is something that interests me as well, and I'm very tempted to add it to my own to-read list.

Date: 2014-01-26 13:04 (UTC)Well, here goes.
My main pick is "Magic or Madness", mostly because I'm a sucker for YA novels and I'd like to hear/read your opinion on it.
My back-up pick for you is "Death by Cashmere". It sounds like a fun yet thrilling read.
Edit: apparently I suck at leaving comments but it's all fixed now. /headdesk

Date: 2014-01-26 15:47 (UTC)Thank you for the choices. MoM has been starring at me from the shelf for quite awhile, so it's about time I get started on it.

Date: 2014-01-26 19:27 (UTC)For you I pick: Fools Rush In. It looks like a fun read, and I notice that reviewers had a lot of likes and a few dislikes about it. I'll be curious to see what you think. It looks fun to me.
For an alternate choice, I'll pick: The Next Best Thing. It also looks like a lot of fun to read. OR, if your to-read list is included, The Game. Who can resist the best novel about hockey ever? I want to add it to my own list!

Date: 2014-01-28 15:54 (UTC)Thanks for your picks, I know there was not a lot to choose from. I tried to stop buying new books until I'm done with all the ones I still have, so yeah.
Definitely taking Fools Rush In. If I finish it early enough I might just take another try at The Game. That's actually on my currently-not-reading list. I was about 3/4 through when I just didn't feel like continuing anymore because reading it was kinda exhausting for me to read but yeah, I'll definitely try to finish if February allows it :)

Date: 2014-01-26 12:44 (UTC)My back-up choice is "The Catcher in the Rye". It seems to be one of those books people either love or hate. I had to read it for English in high school (or the Danish equivalent anyway), and seem to recall rather enjoying it... even if I did think Holden was rather up himself.
