lime & coconut

(no subject)

This past week in Victoria there has been a 'festival' called "Dine Around Victoria"where you go to restaurants and they have set $15, $25 & $35 menus. The meal consists of appetizer, entree and dessert and some of the restaurants are fairly upscale.

Since I ♥ food, my friend Michelle and I have hit up some restaurants and have reservations for others. Last night we had the $25 menu at Barkley's and I was so full I could barely walk home. If I was approached in the night, I would have fallen over like a weeble. (you know, weebles waddle) This past Monday we went to Cafe Brio (my favourite!) and the next restaurant we are visiting is The Blue Crab. I can't wait to have the crab cakes!

At Brio, I had the Hearts of Romaine salad (great dressing!) Red Wine Wild Mushroom Ragout, with polenta and ricotta and Dark Chocolate and Pear bread pudding. Seriously delicious! Michelle had the crispy trout which I would order if I went back.

At Barkley's we both started with Walnut Crusted goat cheese medallions on caramelized onions (yum - but also had some sort of curried onion stuff on the plate which was blech and they werent medaillions, rather sticks) I had the Wasabi encrusted Salmon which was ridiculously good and Michelle chose Lamb Shank on Bleu Cheese mashed potatoes (I am not fond of lamb, but the potatoes were heavenly) and dessert was a pecan tart for Michelle and mascerated Strawberries with Balsamic reduction, black pepper and ice cream for me. Divine!

I wish I could eat like this every day and never put on an ounce of weight. However I walked to work (20 minutes) and home (30) so I feel somewhat better about eating like that.

+ plus, I got a wonderful compliment that had me walking on air all day yesterday as I was approached walking to work by some young man who advised me that I was a gorgeous woman! I'm hardly gorgeous, but it sure made my day. :)

And now, back to regularly scheduled programing.

Friday 5

I never do the Friday 5 anymore. Normally, the questions are a bit geigh. But today's were right up my alley...

1) What was the last thing that you ate?A delicious bowl of brown sugar frosted Mini-Wheats.
2) Who was the last person you shared a meal with?On Tuesday night I met my friends, Lisa and Aaron for dinner at Teh Keg. I had a 9oz glass of Australian shiraz, Chicken Creole and a bite of cheese toast. No dessert. Which is not usually the norm.
3) What is your favorite all time dish (recipes welcome)? Ooh - tough one. The best meal I ever had in a restaurant was Braised Pork Belly with a mustard spatzle. At home, I make spicy BBQ ribs with a sauce that it to die for.
4) If you could eat one thing for an entire year, what would it be? Nachos, with beef and extra cheese.
5) If you could have dinner with any five people (dead or alive) who would they be?My Grandfather on my dad's side, Al Capone, Edgar Allan Poe, Ed Norton & Anne Frank.

Now, it's just about lunch and I am starving. I feel like a delicious rare steak with a chunk of blue cheese on top. Creamy mashed potatoes and crisp asparagus. Creme caramel for dessert.

With a bottle of thick, sweet Shiraz.

*edit* Oh, poo. I had a meal with my soon-to-be former boss and 2 others yesterday for lunch. It was good. Steak sandwich, half caesar. Iced tea, coffee, bite of cheesecake.
