The movement felt nice, and the level design was pretty decent and fed into itself well, I never once got lost and could tell where I was on the map just by thinking, which is exactly what you want! The enemy design was clear and concise, if I saw an enemy once, then I was able to recognize it in the future on a glance based purely on movement behavior and design, so great work there. The gameplay elements of a platformer/mild metroidvania are there, and once again play nicely with the design of the game.

Honestly the only thing I would change would be to add some rewarding sound effects, some longer dialogue box intervals, and to polish the speed, or dampen the 'waiting' aspects of the gameplay, especially the fidget spinner. It's your main unique mechanic, so it's what should feel the most rewarding to use. Unfortunately right now it just feels to slow to give the feeling of "I'm throwing this thing". Overall I'd say you have more than a good foundation since my main gripes come with fixes that equate to mild tweaks and slight polish.

Thank you for playing and highlighting so clearly what could be improved :)

I am not sure if you figured out that you can throw the spinner faster by scrolling faster, or still find the max speed to be too slow (or you would get rid of the slower speeds) . In any case, the main mechanic of throwing by using the scroll wheel should have been explained better.
I really like the idea of different throw speeds, where each has a different strength depending on the situation (e.g. close up and ranged target), but it definitely could use some more polish. I opted for a return speed similar to the throw speed as I thought it was more realistic. An instant return without any explanation or return speed faster than the throw felt off to me. Maybe a kind of lasso mechanic with visual indication where the player can decide when to quickly reel the spinner back in could work.

I did NOT know about the variable speed, that explains a lot!

Fun execution and very fun pixel art! I do find the game is pretty difficult though, reminds me of NES games with their secrets and stuff. Overall neat premise, but I did find myself stuck one too many times to beat it. (Though I did appreciate that not everything reset when you die)

Overall I feel that the difficulty could've been tuned down a bit, maybe make the headphones recharge rather than be a pickup with a counter? There are a lot of projectiles to deal with and all. I also had trouble moving down platforms after having jumped on them (ex: ladders) and some of the colour choices had me confused what was and wasn't a solid object, or they sometimes blended into the background.

Overall solid stuff, and the fidget spinner is a neat idea.

Thank you so much for playing our game and giving such in detail feedback! :)
I am very happy to hear you liked the pixel art and our fidget spinner idea.
It was our very first game jam and we frankly went for a way bigger scope than we probably should have, so we didn't get to play-test a lot. Was still a blast to make the game though :)
Will definitely try to make something smaller next time to have more time to work on the difficulty and overall enjoyability.

Thanks again!

I think I relate too much to complete this game lol. I don't really get what I need to do to get to the main boombox and finally destroy it. But other than that, everything is pretty good.

Also, personally, it would feel better if the headphones just made everything sound softer, or the music was more chill lofi style (and still less loud). Yes, I know I can lower the general volume, but it wouldn't be the same.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking out the game :) - and thanks for the feedback!
Volume controls and maybe a fade-in and -out effect for the music I sadly didn't manage to get done in time. The boom box can be destroyed with the golden fidget spinner item which is in a chest in the basement, the key for which is dropped by the enemy in the spire on the top right of the map. We had a lot of ideas for fun progressions but only managed to throw this together. So you at least have a little more to do than just destroying the boom box right away :)

Ohh okay thx I will try it again when I can!

I really dig the use of the theme in this one. The fidget spinner makes for an interesting weapon in a platformer. Especially with the almost metroidvania elements to this.

I feel like the mouse wheel controls are a little bit wonky. I like the idea (I have a pretty bad history of trying to make projects with weird controls because for some reason that scratches something in my brain), and eventually I was able to get used  to it, but I don't know that they were too intuitive from the start.

All in all, simple, but really well executed and fun. Lovely art, cute little story, and a creative take on the theme. What more could I ask for? I could see this mechanic being expanded on as well!

Thanks for the in detail feedback :)

thanks for checking out our game! :)

Interrupting study time is definitely a serious matter! Haha the fidget spinner is fun, but I wished it would return to the player faster even when it has some decent speed when thrown. I appreciate the art style too. Nice work between the two of you!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and protecting the serious study time! And yeah, that’s definitely something we’ll work on after the game jam

Hey nice gammee, I really like the fidget spinner shoot mechanic and the healing they both are very interesting and haven't seen much of that before, also music and art set a nice vibe

the game idea of a spinning  spinner is creative i like it

Developer(+1)

thanks, we kinda stuck with the first two things that came to our minds: the scroll wheel and fidget spinners

Sorry to hear that! :/ Anything I can do on my side? Were you playing on Web or Windows?

Lovely pixel art animations, great job on those! The fidget spinner attack is a bit slow, but perhaps that’s the intention. It was also tough to tell what a platform was, even if the ones that weren’t were colored darker. Regardless, I had a good time playing, nice work!

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing and for your feedback! :) Regarding the slow attack: It wasn't made very clear that you can influence how fast the spinner spins and travels. Have you tried spinning the mouse wheel up quickly/ clicking fast to throw the spinner?

Art Style , Music , Gameplay is great. I have a question after i died i cant use my spinner again?? Apart from that i had fun though

Developer

Thank you so much and thanks for the bug!
Loosing your spinner if its in the air while you respawn wasn't intentional :)

Great art and music, though the background sometimes is confusing if it's touchable or not. having an hp bar of sorts would work better but probably it was because of the time limit. I think i lost my spinner after i died, the context is fun and it's voice acted? :D technically

Developer(+1)

Thank you so for playing and all the feedback and suggestions :) I could fix the disappearing spinner bug now, thanks! Yeah, we recorded all the sounds except the explosion sound of the boom box ourselves ^^
