The evening featured > Founder case studies from Divyaanshu Makkar (WizCommerce) and Sandeep Jethwani (Dezerv), > A fireside with Nishit Garg (RTP Global) and Sajith Pai, and > a closing session with Karthik B. Reddy on all things fundraising A few ideas worth sharing from the discussion: ▪️ Run a two-deck strategy: a short teaser for intros and a longer one for serious conversations. Prep the data room in parallel. ▪️ Time-box the raise to 45-60 days. Urgency creates competition. ▪️ The market has reset: the path to profitability is non-negotiable, AI fluency is table stakes, and 18-24 months of runway is the floor. Two lines that stayed with the room: Nishit Garg: I only have a small window to look at a deck. But there must be a WOW factor for me to spend 3-4 minutes. Being just above average in everything generally won't make a good deal. Karthik Reddy: If you wake your investor at night and ask their top 5 portfolio companies, will you be part of that? Aim to be in that top five. I’ve seen firsthand how investor attribution and carry sharing in cross-border deals can become surprisingly contentious. I’ve encountered clear differences between the original agreed terms on carry, and the manner in which these are now being interpreted as the payout is due. This is something I am actively pursuing through formal legal channels. In syndication deals, the venture partner's role in bringing investors is central, especially when the same opportunities are available across multiple platforms. If anyone else has worked with Tokenfolio / TF Capital (or even other platforms) in a similar capacity, I’d be open to connecting privately to compare notes on carry attribution. Perhaps, there is a broader pattern. As cross-border syndication grows rapidly for Indian investors, there is clear value in greater clarity and standardization around documentation - particularly on investor attribution, economics, and carry structures. Given that these arrangements often involve Indian capital and investors, this is an area that SEBI, which regulates the broader AIF ecosystem, may eventually examine more closely.

If you narrow your top of funnel through well-thought through signals / proxies such as ROCE (his key filter), and then invest after a lot of primary research (talking to customers / suppliers, management), then AI may not add a lot of value here.
