3D-JC SD13 Boy Volks Link

BJD Rant !

I have had it with small-minded close-minded BJD prudes !! Claiming that vinyl dolls are to be excluded from BJD discussion because they are not resin. BJDs are Ball-Jointed Dolls. The definition is the jointing system, which is ball and string. The material is not part of the definition. You are talking about material of resin versus vinyl. That is not the mechanism of ball-jointing. Older BJDs were made of wood !! ‼️

Reviewed my BJD papercraft digital mesh (technical)

For folk who have may have been following my posts on my development of a 1/3 scale papercraft BJD, I have the following update which determines how I proceed from this point in the process.

"I went back into Shade 10 where I originally created the digital 3D mesh for my papercraft BJD. I inspected the quadrilateral polygons and tried mesh decimation / simplification. I attempted same with the OBJ format file in Hexagon, and then in Meshlab. The simplification algorithms produce almost the same decimated mesh with triangular polygons.
I attempted quadrilaterisation of the 3rd-generation decimated mesh, but the result is far from symmetrical (should I have expected different ?),
My conclusion is:
CONTINUE WITH EXISTING PAPERCRAFT TEMPLATE, BUT DISOBEY SOME OF THE FOLD LINE CONVENTIONS, SO AS TO PRODUCE A SMOOTHER BODY PART, REGARDLESS OF THE ASSYMETRY OF TRIANGULAR POLYGONS ON THE ASSEMBLED PART."

Resuming development of papercraft 1/3 scale BJD

After a hiatus courtesy of multiple trips across the planet, I have dragged myself back to my 1/3 scale papercraft version Ball Joint Doll in anime style. I stopped development because I had some trouble with the hands. The way I had designed the 3D mesh, caused the papercraft software to unfold many small bits and pieces of fingers and thumbs. Which, at 1.3 scale human size, are not quite possible for me to fold together, mostly because of my old eyes and clumsy fingers.

I did a freehand sketch of a complete 1-dimensional open-palmed hand in Sketchup, and exported as OBJ, then imported it into Pepakura. I'm looking at possibly a 2mm thick hand, which can be shaped into a reasonable 1/3 dollfie hand by handling the paper.

However, I am thinking it's probably easier to forget about the tabs in the papercraft template and simply glue the two sides of the hands together for thickness, then shape the whole item into a more realistic-looking hand.

My BJD SD13 Boy has new Visual kei hairstyle

I guess his good-boy prince looks have become a little bit Visual Kei now, with his new hairstyle. I found the hairpiece among my otaku loot boxes, and it had a small label in the plastic bag saying "Kuro Bara" (Black Rose); must be the name of the shop I bought it from - can't remember where, most likely from a dollfie booth at Anime Festival Asia 2009 (AFA 09).
