I’m a little bit obsessed with these magical girl -esque weapons I saw on Mandarake. They’re sold, and I can’t seem to find the brand “Rameb” they’re listed as being from.. but I needed to save and share!
by using a lot of glue, and being willing to eat fibres for the next two months because that shit gets everywhere
more seriously, the process is fairly easy but occasionally time consuming. The most “famous” video in the hobby explaining the basics would be that one:
tto put it simply, you create a hard base by stretching fabric over the doll’s head, you glue your hair of choice on that, style it, and voilà! a doll wig!
using acrylic yarn is a common enough process theses days (pretty cheap source of hair, but so fucking time consuming I do not have the patience). Other options are things like alpaca or mohair (alpaca get expensive, those wigs sell for a LOT of money). I like to use viscose fibre I buy on etsy, because it’s soft, easy to style, and keeps it shape well. On the downside, it gets bulky if you have too much hair on the wig, and I struggle with that.
to give an example, on this photo the two dolls on the left have ‘homemade’ wigs (I didn’t do the pastel one, but it is lovely) and Huaisang (second from the right) also has a homemade wig
my dolls are a mix of bought and made wigs. There’s good and bad sides to both
I managed to cut all the pieces for doll!my's outfit, and that's not a bad accomplishment since cutting is usually the part I hate
Which is made a lot easier when using one of those spray that are made to help you iron your clothes. Doll clothes need thin fabric which are often slippery, but the spray makes them a little stiffer and so I can handle them more easily
Now time for a well deserved break, because trying to do everything at once only brings problems!
If you’re wondering, the outfit in question is this:
But with a different fabric:
It’s a nice mustard colour irl. A bit darker and more saturated than even in the donghua and manhua Jin designs, but it’s what I had at home and I don’t feel like hunting the right shade when I habe something somewhat similar already that I wasn’t using anyway
*brings you a blanket and a cup of hot chocolate* hope the rest of your day will be a little better, and you'll have a cozy time chrocheting ^^ take care of yourself 💕💖

thank!! ;w;
today wasn’t exactly bad, it was just. A lot of up and downs. Got very excited about stuff, very frustrated about other stuff. Big emotions for a small brain ahah orz
and crochet’s going well!
only… a good third of that cloak left? Or maybe more if I want it to be really fancy and dragging on the floor behind him
MOAR doll pics please? Show off the hood and cloak?
plz be warned that the light sucks, but here’s Noisette and her weird cloak
It’s not the best, partly because it was an impulsive project done using yearn I had bought a bit at random, but it was fun and she looks like a weird little forest creature :D
