Got a care package from my friend Kristin today and have now tasted my first ever Twinkie. It was interesting...made Tom eat one too and all he could do was comment on the colour
I also have the recipie and ingredients to make s'mores after harmonyfb told me about them in Tampa. Will have to experiment with it at some point
Also have Oreo cookies which Dave asked me to get so I'll be trying those tomorrow when he gets back from London.
And Tom is DEFINITELY a pod person. He is being entirely too reasonable about the whole me and Dave thing. I've had no sarcastic comments or anything....maybe he's just doing it at work where I can't hear him...
Do any of you UK types know if it is possible to have video put onto DVD somehow? I want my Tampa tape put on DVD so I can make amusing screencaps. LOL
I've been doing a computer training course on a Friday morning for the last few weeks. The training itself was easy, easy to the point of being patronising. I had to learn how to turn a computer on for christ's sake!
Anyway, I completed all the training modules and then it came time to take the exams. There are 7 in total, each one relating to the relevent module
Exam 1 - Basic Computing - Pass
Exam 2 - Basic IT - Pass
Exam 3 - MS Word - Pass
Exam 4 - MS Excel - Fail
WTF??
During the training modules you have to take a series of tests. I got between 80 and 100% on all of them. I took the Exel mock exam and passed. Took the real exam and failed. Revised the module and took the exam again. Failed again. The stupid woman who runs the course can't tell me what I'm doing wrong and her current suggestion is that I do the whole Excel module again and then take the exam again. So what was the point in doing the module in the first place if I have to do it again
GRR!!!
I have two more attempts at the Excel exam and if I fail them then I fail the whole course.
So frustrating and depressing. I'm hardly computer illiterate!
So, that's what I've got to look forward to tomorrow morning :(
cd_lind the present arrived yesterday. Thank you *huggles* I haven't opened it yet. I'm saving all my prezzies for Monday when it's my actual birthday :)
flickums arrived last night and we spent the evening eating pizza and watching Buffy so that she could see Caleb. Nathan is still hot but Caleb has really bad hair. LOL
Next door had the BIGGEST party last night. There were still people arriving at 3:30am. The noise got a bit much so I moved into the other room and kipped there until it was over. At least they're being considerate enough to be outside now cleaning up all the mess
Today flickums and I will be shopping in the afternoon and then eating steak and drinking cocktails in the evening. Should be lots of fun
Tomorrow I will have to do a load of reading in preparation for my interview :(
I've just remembered I spent about 20 minutes on Friday trying to convince everyone that Kickin' It Old Skool is the best film ever. LOL. And I didn't even use the 'it's got Michael Rosenbaum in it' excuse. Hehe!
I also need to explain that if you get a comment from me with a totally unrelated and random icon it's because I keep forgetting I've got the Firefox LJ add-on which picks a random icons whenever I post or comment. Sometimes I remember to check but a lot of the time I forget. Hehe!
Your challenge is to write crossover fanfiction combining Everquest and Army of Darkness. The story should use someone opening a gate to Hell as a plot device!
1. There are 30 questions. 2. Next to each number, write only the name of the person who fits. 3. Answer one question with one name. 4. Don't tell the questions to anyone who isn't doing the meme.
I don't know about the rest of you but I find it so much easier to write fics from Lex's perspective. My Lex muse knows exactly what he wants and what needs to be done to get him there. 400 words into my Arctic snippet and I know exactly how it's going to play out and how it's going to end
Because I have to leave at 3:30am I thought I'd go to sleep for a few hours when I got in from work. I'm all confused now. Got up at midnight and nearly did a Follow Friday post on Twitter. I have no idea why I thought it was Friday
Now I'm hungry and it kind of feels like breakfast time even though technically I need to have dinner. Maybe I'll just eat some toast or something
I'm not quite sure how this happened. LOL. There was a post asking for people to help out, I offered to help out and the next thing I know it's my panel. Luckily for me I didn't even need to ask for panelists to help me. Three lovely ladies had already contacted me about it when I woke up this morning so now we just need to sort out what we want to do
So I'm just looking for some input from you guys at this point so I can present some ideas to my panelists. The topic is BBC Shows. What would you want to discuss? We've already established we want to mention Merlin, Sherlock, Doctor Who and Torchwood. Are there any major shows missing from there? What sort of discussion points about these shows and others would you find interesting?
So, I just had a call from Greg who wanted to give me heads up. He said he nearly got fired this week less than two weeks into his new job because his employer expected him to have a series of skills that most people in our job should have had.
So apparently I need to learn about networking and a few other things pronto.
YAY! :-s
I am rapidly considering a career change. I don't know to what but something where I can just turn up and do my job and go home without being regularly expected to solve problems I have no clue about.
John/Sherlock (BBC Sherlock) Nothing to Make a Song About by emmagrant01 When Sherlock returned from his faked death, John could not forgive him for the deception and broke off their friendship. Ten years later, John returns to London in search of yet another new beginning. Sherlock, not surprisingly, is waiting. This is the first post-Reichenbach fic I’ve read and I really enjoyed it!
Cecil/Carlos (Welcome to Night Vale) The Devil Made Me Do It by InitialA Cecil can't talk. Carlos has to do the show. (entirely spoken; weather segment included) This is just adorable and I love this version of Carlos
Wow, look at this! I am totally using my LJ for something that isn't fic recs or a music poll O.O
I am going to cross-post to my Tumblr though because that's how I roll.
So, at the weekend I attended writerconuk. For those who don't know what it is it's a small fan-run convention that takes place every year in the UK. It's really more of a large fandom meetup, the only difference being the attendees run some panels and workshops on the Saturday.
I was particularly exited this year because I'd convinced enchantersnight and so_shhy to come. I then felt the pressure to ensure that they enjoyed themselves but as far as I can tell there's no worries on that front. Both said they'd come back next year if the timing suits :D
For those of you who were around last year you may or may not remember the Great Cow Debacle of 2013. Basically when I was on the train to Coventry the train in front of me hit a cow causing us to be stuck in the middle of nowhere for about 3 hours. Considering it wasn't anyone's fault the train company were really good and refunded my ticket as well as giving me a voucher for a free journey anywhere on their route.
But, thankfully, there were no cow related incidents this year. Only problem I had was between York and Birmingham I was sat next to a larger gentleman who kept falling asleep and half crushing me in my seat. It wasn't too bad though. I got several fics read which was good.
I arrived to a rather crowded bar but managed to get a glass of wine in and have a chat to enchantersnight and so_shhy before I disappeared to help kazzy_cee set up the projector in the room.
First night was fun! We made little flying dinosaurs that we all threw at each other. I gave mine a Black Widow design because.
Then it was time for the quiz which led to the realisation that I watch WAY too much TV. The only fandoms I couldn't answer questions on were Stargate and Doctor Who. Our final score was 90/95 *blush*
After that we retreated to the breakout area (or executive lounge as it's now called) for cocktails and chats. bogwitch and I bonded over the ridiculous Covet Fashion game which I am currently addicted to. gillo and so_shhy were horrified that I'd never read any Diana Wynne-Jones so I now have a few books on my Amazon Wishlist.
Then, because none of us are as young as we used to be, we all headed to bed for a reasonably early night. Gone are the days where kitty_poker1 and I used to stay up until 3am talking about J2 fic :-p
6 – When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters? Considering I pretty much exclusively write m/m slash these days I'll say male characters. Which kind of makes me feel like a bad feminist really.
Made it safely to Coventry and picked up my German friend txorakeriak on the way. It was SO BLOODY HOT on the train and outside and everywhere really so we just stayed in the hotel last night. We cannot deal with hot weather in England. We are delicate flowers.
txorakeriak bought me penguin socks as part of my birthday present :D
