End of the radio show & official art

So the Gurren Lagann Radio show finally ended on July 3. Which wasn't a surprise, since they've long run out of things to talk about and most of the commercials were increasingly for other GAINAX shows instead of Gurren Lagann. But considering it ran for over two years, and began several months after the TV series was already over, I'd say it had a good run.

There wasn't anything remarkable about the final episodes aside from a laughable lack of budget and the producer Takeda-san reaffirming the "10 years" plan all the way to the end:

In short, as has been said before, the franchise is going into hibernation, but as long as GAINAX has the money to pull it off, they do intend on coming back to it again.

Also, for anyone who hasn't seen them already, there were two more Parallel Works images on the top page in the past weeks.

And to pad out this post further, since they haven't been posted yet, here are the "Another Jacket" illustrations from Parallel Works 2 Limited Edition. (Scans aren't by me, and were found on 4chan.)

Not over yet!

So in the latest episode of the radio show, someone sent in a question about Takeda's statement that the Gurren Lagann franchise would go on for ten years. Takeda addressed this, and as usual, he couldn't help but let something slip...

Also, there's going to be a book coming out of the image boards, which were used to flesh out the Gurren Lagann world during production: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Image Board!

I've personally been waiting for this for a LONG time. Some of the image boards were already shown in the episode 16 special ending, but now they'll be releasing all of them, including image boards we've never seen before and rare image boards that were never used. Though the price and release date hasn't been announced yet, it will be coming out sometime this month. Eeee~!
EPIC

Various music info

Forgot to mention this before, but on the 63rd episode of the radio show (aired on April 11), Taku Iwasaki came on as a guest to talk about the new tracks he made for the movie.

He said he started making the music after the script was finished; he was asked by the director to create music for specific scenes. As for how he came to record the new music in the first place- at the launch party for Gurren-hen, Iwasaki was drunk and approached Imaishi. He had been really excited over Gurren-hen, and feeling regretful and left out, so he demanded that they let him make new music for Lagann-hen, even if it meant paying for it all himself. And he was told right there "Please do it." XD

Anyway, getting back to the Lagann-hen OST, Iwasaki posted his comments on the new tracks on the movie website:

As for what parts of the movie these tracks are used in...

Some music news

The latest episode of the radio show had Part 1 of the live recording held at Tokyo Anime Fair 2009, which you can listen to here.

I'm mainly pointing this out because starting from 25:21, they play the song "S・t・a・r・S" from Yoko's music video (though they talk over most of it).

They also talked a little about the recording for Lagann-hen. Kakihara says he had to do a lot of shouting the whole time, right from the beginning. Seems Nia gets a lot of lines too.

And the track names for the Soundtrack Plus were announced.

KACKY!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!! Thank you SO much to csakuras for bringing this to my attention.

Remember that project to send R1 DVDs to Kakihara Tetsuya??

Well, we didn't get a mention in his blog but we did on the latest Radio Gurren Lagann!!! =.DDDDD

http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm60…
At around 6:27, Kakihara asks Inoue if she's seen the American version of Gurren Lagann, to which she replied no. He said that he has and that it was sent to him by fans. =.DDDDDD Then they go on to discuss the English version a bit. (Sorry, I haven't listened to much of it cuz I skipped to around 6:27 and have repeated that part only like 3 times already, LoL.)

So YAY! Our DVDs reached him and he definitely did watch them and read our letters. =.DDDDDD THANK YOU to all who participated in the project!
dotdotdot...

Some news...

February 2nd, 2008. A new Gurren Lagann radio show is started for the purpose of reporting "the latest information quickly as possible," this time playing on terrestrial broadcasting (the previous radio show was on the internet and ended in November). At the beginning of the first episode, Tetsuya Kakihara and Marina Inoue express their surprise at getting another radio show since the anime has already ended and wonder if this means there will be any further developments.

February 4th, 2008. Gainax posts a recruitment ad, hinting at a new project.

....Could this be leading up to something?

EDIT: Come to think of it, that bootleg! Gurren Lagann event on January 20th....apparently Gainax told the people who attended to keep silent on what they talked about there, and likewise on the blog they're not revealing anything. Maybe whatever they're planning will be revealed in the mook when it comes out...?

Radio Show Transcript/Translation/Summary...thingy

I saw people on various Japanese sites talking about this, so I decided to check out episode 37 of the Gurren Lagann Radio show. This episode had Kazuki Nakajima as a guest, which explains why everyone was talking out about it so much.

Anyway, on a whim, I decided to transcribe/translate/summarize what I consider the most interesting parts. I'm obviously not writing every word of what they're saying because they all talk really fast, keep talking over each other, etc. But I tried getting the important parts of the conversations.

If anyone wants to listen for themselves, here's a download. The part I'm transcribing/translating/summarizing starts at 15:25 and ends around 31 minutes in.

Fzghiuaxzg, now I'm listening to episode 38, which has Nia's VA and Nakajima as guests, and Fukui-san is so adorable. ♥
