So in the latest episode of the radio show, someone sent in a question about Takeda's statement that the Gurren Lagann franchise would go on for ten years. Takeda addressed this, and as usual, he couldn't help but let something slip...

Lately, "Namida no Tane, Egao no Hana" is playing a lot, isn't it? Every time I hear it, I remember that ending I saw at the theater and the fact that Gurren Lagann has been concluded and I start to get teary-eyed. Even when I open the pamphlet, I see the words "end" and "final" all over the pages, and as I close it I think every time, "Takeda-san, you said that it would continue for ten years!" However, I'm still grateful despite that. Everyone at GAINAX who created Gurren Lagann that impacted me in many wonderful ways, thank you very much!"
Inoue: You said that it would be continued for ten years.
Kakihara: That's what you said.
Takeda; Well, in various forms. We'll still keep on doing it.
Inoue: There's still more?
Takeda: We'll still do more.
Inoue: What will you do?
Takeda: Various things. It's a secret. But we'll do it.
Inoue: Really?
Takeda: Yes, seriously.
Inoue: It'll seriously continue for ten years?
Takeda: We'll do all sorts of things. Well, you know that it's really hard to make anime, right? I'm really being serious here.
Inoue: Ten years after what?
Takeda: Eh?
Inoue: Ten years after you started making it?
Takeda: Ten years after it ended.
Inoue: Ten years after it ended?
Kakihara: You mean ten years after the TV series ended?
Takeda: Ten years after it ended.
Kakihara: That's an incredible thing to say.
Takeda: Well, yes.
Kakihara: Wait, so it's not ten years after the movies end?
Takeda: It could be after the movies too, it's not that precise.
Kakihara: Ohhhhhhh, that's reassuring!
Takeda: But making anime is really hard. It takes a whole lot of effort and money. Well, besides the money, you need the staff's talents too, and anyway, it's really tiresome. Because when a series starts, animators get fat. The reason they get fat is that when an animator is busy, that means they can't move from their desk. They eat meals at their desk and the only time they move is to go to the bathroom or sleep. Sometimes you can't even sleep. In GAINAX's case, inside GAINAX, there's a warehouse where everyone goes to sleep. But that's how it is. That's how tiresome and difficult it is. It's hard to keep sitting in a chair too, because it hurts your back. So if the chair is too high, you have to adjust it. We have to worry about things like that too. That's how hard it is. That's why, when we say we'll continue Gurren for ten years, we mean all sorts of things, it's like let's play with Gurren for a while, you know?
Kakihara: So you don't just keep sitting around.
Takeda: Right, right. So we can have events like watching the TV series and movies back-to-back all night. Things like that would be fun.
Inoue: We'd like to do that.
Takeda: Right right right, we can do all sorts of things like that. So it's not just new works being produced. Various goods will be coming out too, so we can also have events for those. And well, last year the Gurrepala came out...it's still a secret, but...
Inoue: Huh, a secret?!
Takeda: It's still a secret, but there's been talk about doing more... This is really a major secret.
Kakihara: So there may or may not be plans like that...
Inoue: But if it's a secret, doesn't that mean it's mostly been decided?
Kakihara: That's right, that's right.
Takeda: So, we'll still keep doing more from here.

Takeda: Depending on the circumstances, there might be a Gurren Lagann 2... Well, well, we still don't know about that. We don't know.

Also, there's going to be a book coming out of the image boards, which were used to flesh out the Gurren Lagann world during production: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Image Board!
I've personally been waiting for this for a LONG time. Some of the image boards were already shown in the episode 16 special ending, but now they'll be releasing all of them, including image boards we've never seen before and rare image boards that were never used. Though the price and release date hasn't been announced yet, it will be coming out sometime this month. Eeee~!
