"All the things that you aren't saying are the things I'm not obeying."
  • give me a man ripe for a breakdown
  • and i'll end the world for you
  • give me a man ripe for a breakdown

Chris. she/her. Fandom Old. Aries. AroAce. She of the Terrifying Word Count. There are no benefits to being a retail manager. Purple tiefling enthusiast. Has a PhD in Lucien Nonagon, probably. Cree Rights Activist. Tombtaker Apologist. Simps For Hell in Any Universe. My fandoms, ships, and character preferences are not always wholesome or unproblematic and you have to decide if you can live with that.

  • Hello, my name is Chris. I write a lot of fanfic and have been doing so for 25 years. I’m old, Clarence.

You will often see me talk about my writing, so this post is for knowing what the fuck I am talking about, because that is literally the ONLY THING you need to know about me going into this blog. Everything else is subject to my whims. I have a lot of fandoms. Many of them will be represented on this list.

It is a running joke that I can never predict the word count of anything and when I say 200k, what I actually mean is 600k. I didn’t use to be like this. Something broke in me and now everyone has to deal with my doorstoppers.

90% of my fic titles come from Seanan McGuire’s songbook. In case you were wondering.

Current projects I am working on (AKA “THE B TEAM” why do they all have B words in them):

    • by a spindle’s bright end (0/30)- Critical Role. Finale of life in the margins of redemption. Covers CR3 in the sense that events from CR3 sure do happen, but is told primarily from the POV of the Nein and their allies and deals with a lot of the Apogee Solstice/Moon War mess on a grander scale courtesy of the consequences of previous fics. COMING EVENTUALLY.
    • we burn to babylon (7/10)- Venom (movies) A fic so canon compliant and canon complicit that the audience is me and only me and no one else because who else will accept the crimes against comics canon I’m about to commit in the name of Sony movie accuracy in adapting elements. A novelization of a fourth movie based on a smattering of different comic arcs but mostly The King In Black that only exists in my head. The Goncharov of fanfiction because I am not kidding when I say I am TRYING to write something that could feasibly be the fourth movie we’ll never get as a fun writing experiment. I want to be Matthew Stover and the Revenge of the Sith novel so bad I look stupid, but my GOD I am having fun and maybe other people will too. (CURRENTLY ON HIATUS)
    • bid the ground goodbye- (11/18) The Amazing Digital Circus. The unauthorized sequel film to the series, because if I’m not writing Canon Divergence, I’m writing unauthorized sequels. It is a fic about the Macroverse and the Digital Circus coming together to pop the AI bubble. You can’t prove there’s allegory in it.
    • a bridge and not a goal- (0/10) Bleach. Eight months after Yhwach’s defeat, a murder brings Urahara and Hiyori back to Soul Society, forcing Urahara to contend with his past and prior actions and Hiyori to contend with her views about the world and Urahara, himself. (TBA)

I may dip and write some one-shots, but it’s unlikely I would ever actually talk about those because they happen so infrequently it’s like either I write it or I don’t why get anyone’s hopes up.

Beneath the cut, you will find a masterpost of both my long series and what I consider my personal favorites of my non-series fics if my body of work is overwhelming, but you’d like to try something shorter than a million words. I write mostly gen fic, either canon divergent or canon compliant (sometimes fix-it), character-driven, redemption-flavored stories. Most are also all shorter than 100k by, like, a huge margin. It’s all I seem to write now, but there was a time when I was young and innocent.

  • I do always find it so sillyyyyy when people are like "oooh well fandoms™ just aren't as interested in women characters because women aren't written very well so they're not fun, unlike men characters" as if a huge portion of Fandom Participants™ aren't also just inventing new personalities for their dude faves so that they can fit into the Grumpy/Sunshine Top/Bottom Masc/Woman Lite molds. like you barely give a shit about actual characterization then but suddenly when it's women only their canon official writing counts and it's not sufficient... okay villain. I see you

  • “some people don’t deserve redemption” redemption isn’t something that’s deserved, it’s something someone does. it’s making the choice to change the way you live your life, to be better, to do good things instead of bad things and try to make up for the bad things. and everyone can and should do that, at any time, no matter what they’ve done. we can’t change the past, but we can choose what kind of person to be now and in the future. we have the responsibility to do so. it is so completely not about “deserving.”

  • my genuine opinion on the "is fanfiction real literature" debate entire hinges on which side is being more annoying at the moment.

  • on one hand i have encountered people who think fanfiction writers are single handedly saving art , and think criticizing fanfiction is anti-queer or whatever" and those people are extremely annoying, on the other hand i have also encountered people who think fanfiction is degenerate slop with 0 artistic value that's rotting your brain" and those people are extremely annoying too, so i guess the only person i can trust is myself who has never made a pretentious post on the internet in my entire human life.

  • advertisement is so constant and everywhere i have to wonder if it even works anymore. im aware my bus stop probably has ads on it but i couldnt tell you what for. i hear 'this video is sponsored by' and i start skipping ahead until its over. u can probably argue theyre still getting in your brain by becoming part of the white noise but like idk man. im feelin really "when everything is ads, nothing is." right now.

  • This reminds me of a story from work - one time my boss messaged me about an upcoming work event:

"Seems like you'd be interested in this - want me to send you the details?" "Sure."

My boss then forwards me an email. I open it, and it contains a couple of lines describing the event, but no actual details.

Conversation resumes: "Hey - did you send me the right email? I don't see any details in there - where's the event being held?"

Boss, confused: "It looks like the right email to me - I'm seeing all the information. Weird."

Me, rereading the same two lines of text in the email half a dozen times, increasingly confused: "Where are you seeing the address?"

    Boss: "The top right?"

I'm now utterly bewildered. Top right? Who describes a text-based email like that? I look at the top right of the text but it's just a basic intro sentence. It's almost like there should be an image...

And slowly, gradually, I become aware that there is an image. Not an attachment, mind, but an image in the body of the email, that's been occupying about a third of my screen through this entire exchange. It's a big colourful poster describing the event, with all the details in big bold text carefully placed in the most eye-catching locations, with lots of arrows pointing towards them in big bright colors. All of which scanned, to me, like an advertisement. And as a result, my brain had literally failed to percieve the image at all. It didn't even get to the stage of "huh, weird that there would be an ad in a work email" - no, my mind simply failed to acknowledge that the image was even there, at any conscious level.

I've never been so proud of my brain; I felt like the muad'dib of ignoring things.

  • god great comet is an insane musical. it's an adaptation of about 70 pages worth of war and peace. half the lyrics are just straight english translations of conversations from the book. it doesn't rhyme. it's entirely sung through except for one single line in the second to last song. it's technically a love story between two people who don't even meet until aforementioned second to last song. josh groban is there

  • One thing about me is that I will always be a little in love with my friends’ OCs. I am normal and can be trusted with them I promise

  • Pro-censorship wattpad refugees drama is so funny to me because when I started using ao3 as a kid I was a devout mormon and I thought that reading anything even remotely pornagraphic was a sin and would ruin my life. So when I was 13 and found ao3 I went "oh awesome I found a fanfic website with a filtering system so I won't ever randomly stumble into porn. This is great! I was really worried about seeing something I didn't want to see on the other platforms." I didn't read any smut online until like three years later. If a mormon 13 year old can figure out 'don't like don't read' wattpad users can too cmon you guys i believe in you.

  • having a friend that’s as insane about The Character as you is great because you can say something like “he’s so chewable” and not only will they agree, they’ll say something equally as insane like “he’s like children’s medicine”

  • The degree to which modern fans deliberately project their personal psychological issues onto fictional characters is alarming.

You are expected to "relate" to some characters and stories. Yes. That is not the same thing I keep witnessing, where people will decide a given character is literally everything they are the very instant they have anything in common, or an antagonist is exactly like a real person who hurt them, and emotionally invest SO much into this that they can feel actually betrayed when the events deviate from exactly the catharsis they hoped for.

This seems so normalized by some people, I suspect they assume by default that this is basically what fiction is "for" and it never even crossed their minds that you're supposed to enjoy most stories as an outside observer rather than as some sort of guided roleplay session.

This is why creators get harassed and abused more than ever by entitled fandoms.

No, it's not normal, you are not supposed to think of it that way, fictional characters are separate beings from you.
