I love GR my boyfriend and I discovered GR at our local Kinokuniya about a year ago and haven't stopped buying it since. My favorite section is always the "My Perfect Day." Too bad they don't have a GR store were I live. It's about time to make a special trip to go check one out!
anyways I also help run a new website if anyone is interested in getting some cheap japanese treats.
Right now we are having a summer sale were all of our goods are a dollar. Everything from Pocari Sweat, Orange Qoo, UFO, Ramune candies WasaBeef Chips and more and with flat rate shipping at only 8.10 for anywhere in the US.
Does anyone have Issue 33 of Giant Robot magazine Issue 33 2005...and would be willing to send it to me/trade it for soemthing? PLEASE! If not the whole issue, I have a specific little article: the page with the guy and the recipe for "RAW FOOD PUDDING"!!!!!!! thanks
So, my wife informed me via IM that GR #34 arrived in the mail today. Sweet! I also received my region-free DVD player in this morning's UPS shipment at my office! It's been a good day so far!
I think the first non-region 1 DVD I will watch is the Korean movie DVD "Chingoo" ("Friend"). My brother gave me a copy of that movie in what I think is a limited ed. version because it came in a nice metal case with lots of extras inside.
Current Music
Jimmy Cliff "Sitting In Limbo" from the album "The Harder They Come (Disc 1)"
I have gotten into some really great Japanese music over the years but just a few weeks ago I discovered this band, Eggplant. Thier music is really rock oriented, and I find thier song "ReMeet" particularly pretty.
I also have come to love the band Lucifer from the anime series Kaikan Phrase. Some may mock this anime for its dated rock n roll story, but I find the characters so charming and charismatic. My favorite song by Lucifer, (they played the main rockband in the story) is "Datenshi Blue". If anyone hasn't heard them, they should really try them out.
On the downside I may be deleting this account today or tomorrow. Which really bothers me because I love this GR-community. Take care.
I have found that a number of Japanese directors have a distinct sense of what truly scares us. Not only was Ringu one of the most frightening films I've seen. I think it was a very cerebral film as well. I think true horror has to trigger the the more subconscious parts of our brain.
I know I'm ranting, but it just fascinates me. I found another cool Japanese movie called "The Eye". I dont even want to explain the movie. Its best to see the trailer yourselves. http://www.mongkolfilm.com/theeye/…
Hmmm if anyones interested in Japanese horror type films, my sister showed me this one directed by James Wan...his directorial debut is looking really good. http://www.sawmovie.com/
I suggest plenty of Pocky and fruitmilk when watching a film like this.
I really love reading Giant Robot magazine. Its my favorite entertainment mag. Anyway, its partially the magazine that has inluenced me to look at the filmographies of several Japanese actors, and see some of thier movies. I will post more soon.
