2013 - Desperate Romantics

2013 - the second week into July, found me and the rest of the team, on the desolate Bodmin Moors for our first photoshoot of this year. I think we are all bloody insane to book a full week of location shooting in the dead of winter.
The weather was appalling and the most difficult location shot I have ever attempted. But as I surrounded by such amazing creative talent... like we were going to let hail, gales, bogs, rain, more rain, light rain, heavy rain, cow poo, pony poo, rain ... get in the way. California Deathrock book Kickstarter - BTS video of gothic punk photo shoots

So this is my first Kickstarter. It was hard to make this video happen because working on it was giving me the hugest spasm of shyness. Fortunately, Forrest Black and I still managed to bust it out. So now you can see behind-the-scenes footage of what our nightlife portraiture shoots look like, as part of the Kickstarter for our California Deathrock book project.

I love the idea of doing a creative project where I know how many to print beforehand. The way Kickstarter is set up, people pledge to get a copy of the book, but Amazon only charges them after the funding period is complete (in this case the end of the first week of June) and then only if the project is 100% funded. Our book is 104% funded as of today, which I am super happy and more than a little relieved about.

Special thanks to Death Guild and Release the Bats where some of this video was shot. Much love to Margo, Satoki, Thee Gabe, Domiana, Kat, Thistle (RIP), Talia, Christian, Jenn Bats, Dave Bats, Shane Taleda, Matt Riser, Eva O, and everyone else in the contact sheets and photos and video footage.

La Nuit Du Cabaret Noir: вечер готического кабаре в Петербурге

♠ В прошлую субботу, 19 ноября, мы с моей группой Hapalochlaena_Maculosa выступали на замечательном вечере нуара, бурлеска и дарк кабаре, организованном журналом сумрачной эстетики RIP.

♠ Данный подробный рассказ служит своей целью показать людям, что готика - это не малолетние неформалы с грязными волосами и дешевой одеждой, готика - это не сатанисты, режущие кошек на кладбищах, готы - это не вандалы, обитающие на городских кладбищах, готы - это не людоеды, как пару лет назад СМИ активно пытались навязать общественности.

♠ Готика - это в первую очередь особое представление о красоте и эстетике, а готы - люди, которым интересны глубинные вопросы в поверхностном мире. Любовь ко всему темному - это не любовь к смерти, это своеобразное понимание себя через призму своей души. А согласитесь, чем глубже копаешь - тем лучше понимаешь себя и мир.

♠ Готика как субкультура сформировалась к концу 70-х - началу 80х, рассвет пришелся на середину 80х, а к 90м волна сменила свою ориентацию на более популярные течения. И лишь с середины 2000-х годов начинается новый рассвет готической субкультуры, с ее основополагающими музыкальными стилями: пост-панком, дезроком, готик роком.

♠ Вечер открывали обворожительные ведущие АННА АНХЕН и ANTE LUCEM
