fish_echo: Spider [transmet] smoking and typing angrily (Fandom-Transmet-spider types angrily)
Okay, so, um, evidently some folks are seeing old locked posts at lj magically now being unlocked?? [according to, idek, some post I saw on DW's 'latest' page when I clicked that bookmark instead of whatever I had intended to, which said it was via comments at the latest lj news post]. I did check, none of my locked posts (nor any comments screened on my journal) were made public, but regardless, this is enough to push me:

I'm finally importing LJ comments to DW, this is so that I can go to my locked posts and delete them (Note to people who commented on the LJ version of the help-pakistan post-- I'm going to delete those comments now, just in case LJ screws up screening as well. If you'd like to remind yourself of what you said in that comment, they are under your LJ openID on the DW post and they are screened.)

In the future, any locked/filtered/etc/whathaveyou posts will only be posted to DW. (I might make a flocked post on LJ saying 'go check out the DW flock for a new post'? I'm not sure yet, I really haven't thought that far ahead.)

I *think* I've granted access to everyone's openID's LJ account who commented on a locked post of mine (regardless of if they also have a dreamwidth account-- thus ensuring that they maintain the ability to edit/delete said comment), and I *think* I've granted access to the LJ openID of folks who don't already have access under a dreamwidth account. Let me know if that's not the case, or if you think I've somehow mucked something else up. Comments are screened at DW (which means no commenting at LJ, because I don't trust them not to fuck things up). (And I do have DW invites if anyone wants them.)

Um, possibly I'm too tired to be deleting things and granting access and whatnot right now, but I want to do this now (since I'm sure that putting it off until I'm more alert and have more time won't somehow make LJ less prone to these sorts of errors). So really please do let me know if I've done something fumble-fingered, and the not immediately necessary policy changes will be decided upon at some point when I have more brain.

And note to self: go back and add the 'comments screened' tag to the appropriate places, and the 'different lj and dw entries' tag to the posts for which the lj comments have been disabled (due to being screened on dw) and to the restricted access posts (which don't have a corresponding LJ post now, obv)

I have one invite code for AOOO and a dozen (ish) for Dreamwidth. They're open for anyone to nab, leave a comment here if you want one.

Comments are screened- leave a 'I want a code for X' and a how I can get it to you (ie, via email; PM-- LJ, DW, IJ; via replying to your comment and then screening my reply right after [will only work if you have comments emailed to you]; or via something else). I'll update this post with info as the codes get claimed.

Ooooofph, it's been a long ... increment of time. I promised myself I would do a reassessment of things after my [community profile] you_know_thats_right fic was done. Well, it's in (should I create a 'blanket fort' tag at AOOO?) so now I have to think about things (*sigh* thinking...).

So Fishy thoughts on Fishy status:
In list form, because lists rock like rocking things! )

ETA1: I have ten shiny new invite codes to Dreamwidth. Let me know if you'd like one.

ETA2: I forgot that you aren't all following [community profile] you_know_thats_right (what, it's consumed the last mumblemumble-days of my life, you mean it hasn't been likewise for you?**), but my fic was written by [livejournal.com profile] veronicaluv: [Simple Math]. She picked my 'how might Shawn propose?' prompt and I love the way she chose. She has a good grasp of characterization and the final scene is just pure gooey goodness.

Dear LJ

Dear LJ,

When I read my flist, I would really like it if you, you know, showed me the entries time-ordered like you say you do. This business of sometimes not showing the entries when I first look at the page, but them appearing at a later date but amidst entries which you had previously shown me is not on. Because I stop reading my flist when I get to an entry I had previously seen. So, if there's a new-to-me entry beyond that I won't see it (unless I go looking backward for something and happen to notice it). This does not please me.

And, actually, speaking of things which do not please me at all (and are even more important than that), here's some belatedly:

That whole thing with the gender field and its options? Your actions were fail, all over the place. And there were plenty of people who took the time to explain why (which is above and beyond the call), so it is clear that 'well-meaning but ignorant' does not apply here. Which means you willfully disregarded. I didn't say anything at the time because all I had was outrage and lack of coherency. And plenty others were saying things coherently. But right now I don't terribly mind the lack of coherency and I do mind that I am outraged. So, have my outrage.

And the stuff with malware-ish ads (in direct conflict with your TOS)? That's not on, either. I am lucky, my personal journal is basic, so when I am logged in or when people view my journal in my style, there are no ads. But my recs comm is sadly 'plus' level. And I cannot control if people are using proper protections ([see aithine's post for a quick summary]) and I really do not want to be party (however indirectly) to harming people's boxes.

(If you don't know what I'm talking about, [personal profile] thingswithwings has a [summarising post]. Sorry for the lack of a proper linkspam here, but I am tired and figure that this is better than nothing.)

This all rounds out to I am quite happy at Dreamwidth and shall keep my LJ only as long as I have friends there (speaking of, why not come over to DW? :) I'm out of codes right now, but check [site community profile] dw_codesharing). I've decided I'm going to move my recs comm over to DW somehow, even if I don't yet know how I'm going to do it. I am quite sad that (a) comms can't be imported over wholesale like personal journals can and (b) I didn't move over to DW when I first started thinking about it.

No love,

Fish

ETA: Until I can get [livejournal.com profile] fish_recs moved over to Dreamwidth, here's a Dreamwidth feed [syndicated profile] fish_recs_feed, courtesy of [personal profile] starlady.
fish_echo: Parker from Leverage with text 'i love parker' (Fandom-Leverage-Heart Parker)
A new policy update: I shall mention it here whenever I update my recs comm. So if you're watching me both places you can feel free to drop one, if you wish. This is mostly because I like talking (or venting maybe *grins*) about the lists but it feels a bit awkward to do it so in the recs post.

And in the spirit of that, [I've got a new rec post up]. It's a collection of things I wouldn't quite normally rec but that I've been thinking about maybe reccing. So there's profic, audiobooks of profic, links to discussions of two of the fannishly-awesome episodes of TV ever (imo), meta of not-fannish things, and a few fannish fests.

I'm always iffy on reccing profic because I don't want people to go out and spend money on my say-so only to find that it isn't something they like. I figure that with fanfic, the most you've wasted is your time, and you'll've only wasted enough of that which you can afford. But if the profic's available online for free then I don't have to feel any monetary worry!

Those of you who like apocafic might want to give my rec of Redliners a look-- strictly speaking the story might not be apocafic but I like it a similar way to the apocafic stories I like. (If that made sense.)

Also, on my rec set I ask the question of what are the best episodes (or chapters, I suppose, or other smaller increments of canon) from the point of view of a fan. (I mentioned 'Amok Time' from ST:TOS and the Sherlock Holmes ep with babies and Watson punching in my recs) Let's keep the discussion at the recs page for preference, but I'd love to hear what you have to say. (I think I might have to include the Buffy musical episode-- I think I have a fondness for songs which mention mustard :P )

I feel a bit badly for spamming everyone's flists right now, but I'm just happy that my brain is coming back from its x.x state (I pushed myself a bit hard in the lead-up to the holidays, harder than I realised at the time). I'm hoping to get some more meta up before I have to go back to work. Or before my current story grabs my hands and takes over (Dear Parker, I don't have the knowledge to write the details you want me to! Please let me figure out how to do that before you make me go back to the story! Pleadingly yours, Fish). But I figure that these posts will still be here when you return to your flists.

It's interesting because I'm much more interested in writing right now than reading. (That's a sentence I thought I'd never write two years ago!) Which, I suppose, is useful for me to not add to the AOOO server load. And when I do feel like reading atm, I really want it on paper. So I'll curl up with a book on the couch rather than fanfic. So you all can keep up with the Yuletide recs and I'll deal with them later :)

Oh! Also, I have one more DW invite, does anyone want it?
fish_echo: betta fish (pompoms fish)
DW has this 'sponsor a free user' program, where free users get randomly selected for paid account times. And this little fishie is now the surprised recipient of 2 months of paid DW account time. Which means lots of poking around the features that I've been ignoring shall come later.

BUT! And here's where I need *your* help!

ICONS! I CAN HAS 75 ICONS!

So, um, icons I should have? Places I should look for icons? Etc.

Because I'm only going to have them for a short amount of time! And so I should use them and love them and pet them and name them my squishy and sob when they leave me.

Thank you, [personal profile] yvi!
