The slave merchant (Japanese: 奴隷商人 slave merchant) is a criminal that operates in child trafficking at the town of Knorda's slave market.
In Shadow Dragon, his role was replaced by a gang of ruffians who held Archaneans hostage at Knorda's edge.
Biography
During the War of Shadows, the slave merchant abducted Linde as she was running from Gharnef and put her up for purchase at Knorda's slave market. In 604 AC,[a] Prince Marth visited the market town and threatened the merchant to release the children he had up for sale. Upon realizing that the prince had brought the Altean army, the merchant disappeared, thus allowing Marth to rescue the children and Linde.

Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light Maki Hakoda manga
The slave merchant has a minor role in Maki Hakoda's Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light manga, appearing chapter 25 of Volume 5, and chapters 26 and 27 of Volume 6. This adaptation gives them the likeness of an old woman. She owns a hideout in Knorda used for slave trading, and was in league with the local ruffians, the Knorda Fangs, during the War of Shadows.
When Rickard was wandering the town of Knorda by his lonesome, the slave merchant noticed and abducted him. She placed him inside of a prison cell afterwards, where she kept Linde, and sold him to a man. Later, the same happened with Merric when he was part of a search party looking for Rickard and happened upon the merchant.
After Linde, Rickard, and Merric managed to escape, the slave merchant and Knorda Fangs gave chase in an attempt to retrieve them. Though the three struggled against the relentlessness of the Knorda Fangs, they were able to escape in no small part to Linde wielding the Aura spell against the ruffians.
Personality
The slave merchant is characterized as immoral for his acts of child trafficking.[1] He is also depicted as cowardly, as he disappeared immediately upon realizing the Altean army was confronting him for his criminal activity.[5]
In Maki Hakoda's Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light manga, the merchant is characterized as extremely manipulative. She is shown to beckon her targets closer with a warm smile before abducting them, and when selling them into slavery, she will highlight their qualities to a buyer in order to receive more payment. She also possesses notable skill in kidnapping, as she was able to singlehandedly capture Rickard by herself and stuffed him inside of a bag. If her victims manage to escape after being sold, she is even willing to go so far as to wield a club against them in an attempt to recover them as a measure to preserve her credibility as a slave trader.
