Used for self-defense.Description in The Ivalice Chronicles
The dagger is the weakest knife in Final Fantasy Tactics, able to be equipped by the squire, chemist, thief, orator, ninja, and dancer, as well as the onion knight, the sky pirate, and the game hunter in The War of the Lions. It is a beginner weapon and numerous early game units appear equipped with it.
Obtained
Generic female units recruited from a Warriors' Guild come equipped with a dagger.
The dagger can be bought for 100 gil at the Magick City of Gariland, Eagrose Castle, Lionel Castle, the Royal City of Lesalia, Riovanes Castle, Zeltennia Castle, and Limberry Castle.
A dagger can be found as a rare item through the chemist's Treasure Hunter movement ability in Mandalia Plains (0,0; this is right it the corner).
Enemy units in random battles who can wield knives may spawn wielding the dagger when on levels 1 and 2. When the player encounters enemies with a knife they would like to have, they can steal it, potentially loot it from the enemy's treasure chest once they perish, or invite the enemy to switch sides.
Mechanics
The dagger deals damage based on the following formula when used with the Attack command:
The dagger has a 5% chance to activate with Parry when attacked from the front or sides.
The dagger can be used in the ninja's Throw, provided that the unit has learned the "Throw Knives" ability. The damage formula for Throw is:
The dagger is incompatible with the samurai's Doublehand, but can be used with the ninja's Dual Wield.
Use
The dagger is the weakest knife, and is outclassed as soon as the player gets nearly any other weapon. Ramza Beoulve already starts with the superior broadsword.
