    Overview

The game hunter is essentially a copy of Ramza's squire job, down the stats and equipment options, but with an innate ability to poach monsters. It has all the same abilities, including being able to learn Ultima when hit by it; a key difference is that game hunter can learn Shout in chapter 3, while Ramza's squire can at the start of chapter 4.

Luso's Huntcraft has powerful buffs that can be bestowed upon other units, such as Tailwind and Steel, which increase speed and bravery, respectively. This solidifies the Game Hunter as a potent offensive support unit that can slowly strengthen his team and himself over the course of the battle, since those attribute buffs last until the fight is over. Shout is useful to quickly rack-up attributes while approaching enemies in large maps, and can also be used for JP and EXP grinding.

Similarly to Ramza, Luso can be made into a formidable monk with Huntcraft as a secondary, and use with Shout to max out his bravery to vastly increase his unarmed damage dealt (which includes Brawler and Counter Tackle), as well increasing the chance to trigger reaction abilities.

Reaction attacks like Counter Tackle or Counter will allow a Game Hunter to poach monsters (undead monsters lose their bodies and cannot automatically revive) if they are slain, but First Strike does not work on monsters.

Luso must be hit by Ultima while he is a game hunter to learn it, much like Ramza's squire. The only characters who can cast Ultima are Celia, Lettie, Ultima Demons, and Ramza (after he learns from those enemies). To quickly learn Ultima, it is recommended to equip items that prevent Stop and Charm, and to keep distance from Celia and Lettie.

    Etymology

A game hunter is someone who partakes of big-game hunting, the hunting of large game. The term is historically associated with the hunting of Africa's big five game (lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard and rhinoceros), and with tigers and rhinos on the Indian subcontinent.

    Notes

    1. Though game hunter specializes in poaching, Luso resented this activity in a series of subquests in his original appearance as the protagonist of Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift.
