You are one person adrift in a turbulent urban sea – a city filled with others going about their lives. All manner of power players shaking hands, with money flowing in and out and around these streets. The city does not see you outside of the occasional broad statistical swipe. It may not even see the parts of itself where you must walk. If you were to die in a gutter tomorrow, the city would carry on all the same.

But without people like you, the city cannot exist – buildings would stand empty and dark. An ocean is defined by water, and each individual drop of water both does and does not matter due to this. That's the promise, the hope, the lure, and the trap all in one. You belong here, and must find a way to endure. Otherwise, you'll live and die as a member of the city unseen...

The City Unseen is an solo tabletop RPG, playable with or without anyone else at your table. It provides simple rules and writing prompts to help you tell an ongoing tale within a fictional city of your design...

  • Focus on ongoing concerns or major life goals
  • Work a day job, including random incidents
  • Go on a high-stakes heist using stealth, combat, or your wits alone
  • Drive across the city and only break a few traffic laws
  • Roll random citizens to encounter, each with unique personalities

Skill checks, random event tables, and other rules keep things lively as you eke out a day-to-day existence. The City Oracle provides a simple Yes / No to any question you may ask of it... but also can apply Costs and Benefits on top, to ensure nothing's ever quite as simple as it seems.

The Core Rules are free, and include everything you need to play in a city of your own design.

You'll also get an additional Story Scenarios book which includes lore, custom rules, and random event tables for...

  • Arcade Spirits and Penny Larceny,  based on the visual novels by Fiction Factory Games. Enjoy video arcade action, or plan out supervillain schemes!
  • Additional lore, tables, and rules for: Orwellian Dystopias, Cyberpunk Sprawls, Magical Metropolis, Ninja Assassins, Crosstown Couriers, Professional Wrestlers, 80s Action Movies, Film Noir, "Paradise" City, TV Sitcoms, and Post-Apocalyptic Wastelands!

And finally, you'll get Xenon City Blues: a 60-page novella told using The City Unseen rules, including a custom scenario for telling your own stories within this world. It's a good cozy read about

  • Asteroid mining for horrible bosses
  • Roller derby queens
  • High-speed motor scooter chases, and
  • Cute gay robot girls.

But... if you pay $5 or more, you also get a Dice Roller, a local (and private) browser-based app for rolling on every table in the Core Rules! Make your play sessions simple and streamlined by simply clicking to generate new characters, locations, and more.

All future updates to the game books, including new scenarios or core rule tweaks, will be provided for free. Re-download whenever you want!

I like the game and I'm having fun playing it, but it really needs more rules or examples for creating your own city. I originally went in with no idea what kind of city I was going to run, ready to roll with whatever it came up with, but... nothing.

The "Story Scenarios" section has a few example cities, but that's more focused on stories, of course.

Wonderful! Really enjoying going though this :D Love the Penny Larceny scenarios <3

I don't see an area to actually get it?

At the top of the page it states that the game is being released on the 25th of March. Today is the 11th of March.

This is a neat premise though. A bunch of solo players are interested in Slice of Life games.

it'll be releasing on the 25th! It'll be a free download with an optional paid extra dice roller application.
