Tim Hume is a developer who worked at Interplay Entertainment on Fallout and the Fallout Demo as the Mac programmer.

Biography[edit]

Hume graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1989 with a BS in Computer Science.[Ext 1] Hume attended UC Irvine to get a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, but eventually dropped out. He met Tim Cain at this PhD program and left with him to join Interplay.[Dev 1]

Career[edit]

From 1994 to 1997, Hume worked at Interplay Entertainment as a software engineer. Afterwards, he worked at several companies such as Boeing, and Obsidian Entertainment as a software engineer.[Ext 1]

Fallout Series[edit]

For Fallout and the Fallout Demo, Hume is credited as a Mac programmer.[1] The Interplay website credited him as the Lead Macintosh Programmer.[Ext 2]

Hume was in charge of the Mac port for Fallout. He added the Pip-Boy talking to the player, but this was removed for the Mac OS X port. His work also included proof-reading the manual, as well as a few interviews.[Dev 1] Additionally, he "Developed cross-platform, OS-abstraction programming library" which was used in Fallout, and also "optimiz[ed] disk access via disk-caching algorithm, port[ed] sound & graphics, and develop[ed] UI components."[Ext 1]
