T-51 Power Armor is a type of armor appearing throughout the Fallout series.
Background[edit]
A pre-War product of West Tek in conjunction with the United States government, T-51 power armor was created using a poly-laminate composite.[10][2] Features include a back-mounted TX-28 MicroFusion Pack that is compatible we with Fusion Cores[11], HiFlo hydraulic system, and the shell is capable of absorbing over 2500 Joules of kinetic impact.[12] The Power Armor's coating is comprised of 10 micron silver, serving to reflect laser and radiation emissions without damage to the composite subsurface.[13][5]
Described as the "pinnacle of mechanized protection before the Great War," the armor was developed at Fort Strong, utilized in both China and at the Battle of Anchorage.[6][7] Suits sent to Anchorage required additional effort to adapt to the cold climate.[8][9]

Notes[edit]
General Brock wrote that the first production run of T-51b suits were sent to China, receiving reports back of their effectiveness in June 2076.[6] A Fallout 4 loading screen states that it was first introduced in the Battle of Anchorage in January 2077.[7][8]
Behind the Scenes[edit]
- The game and cutscene model of the armor was created by Tramell Ray Isaac for Fallout.[Dev 1]
- According to Tim Cain, the drop-down optic on the helmets is directly taken from a similar optic used by a cult in the film The City of Lost Children.[Dev 2]
- Due to technical issues, the art model needed to be redesigned for the canceled Van Buren.[Dev 1]
- In the Van Buren Tech Demo, the descriptions for the Power Armor and Power Helmet mention T-51b power armor.[14]
- The armor was mentioned on Bethesda UK Twitter.[Ext 1]
- In Sawyer's unofficial Fallout TTRPG, the armor is described as:[15]
This is the classic t-51b power armor used by U.S. troops immediately prior to the drop of the bombs. Though it is very powerful, the wearer is significantly penalized while wearing it<

Sawyer: "We tried to model the Power Armor as T-Ray did in the opening movie and game, but he could get away with clipping that would look really bad at close distances or certain angles. Simply put, building the Fallout Power Armor as it originally looked would have resulted in a suit with a tiny range of motion or a hilarious amount of clipping. We changed as much as we needed to allow for more flexibility in movement, but tried to stay very close to the original design whenever possible."
