Pronto is a weapons merchant and the owner of Lock and Load at Paradise Falls in Fallout 3.
Background[edit]
Pronto is the sole proprietor of Lock and Load, having taken over after the death of the previous owner.[Pub 1] He is rumored to be the son of an old Slaver, but receives little respect from the Slavers themselves.[Pub 1] The Slavers at Paradise Falls trade him most of his weapon stock, looted from guards, wastelanders or captured Slaves during missions.[1][2] The Slavers "keep the good stuff for themselves," leaving him with poor selection of weapons.[1][3]
He is interested in improving his store's stock, but mentions that pissing off too many people in an attempt to get better supplies would result in being put in the Slave pens or hanging from the sign at the entrance.[4] He creates much of his weapon stock himself by disassembling and reassembling them, as well as designing his own weapons sometimes.[5] Eulogy Jones takes a cut of his profits earned from the shop.[6]

Gameplay[edit]
During the unmarked quest Economics of Violence, Pronto will ask the player character to obtain twenty Chinese Assault Rifles to improve his weapon stock.[7] Up to nine rifles are able to be traded at any given time. Once all of the rifles are traded, it will take a full in-game day for Pronto's inventory to reset to his new selection. Eulogy Jones will travel to Lock and Load anytime between the hours of 9AM to 9PM to collect profits from Pronto.[6]
Bartering[edit]
Pronto sells Weapons, Apparel, Aid and Ammo. He will also repair the Lone Wanderer's items. Upon completion of Economics of Violence, Pronto states that he will provide a 20% discount to them; however, no such discount is applied.

Quotes[edit]
- "Guns, guns, and more guns. What do you need?"

- "You ain't got no artistic sense, man. There are a million different ways to kill someone, all it takes is a little imagination."

- "Yeah... you know, I could really get this little shithole going if I had some better stuff. First thing's first, bring me some Chinese Assault Rifles. People always need 'em for parts. Twenty should get me going."

Appearances[edit]

Behind the Scenes[edit]
- Pronto has unused dialogue related to buying Railway Rifle schematics:
| TOPIC | PROMPT | RESPONSE TEXT |
|---|---|---|
| FFPFBuySchematics1 | What have you made? | You know, this and that but... I made this kickass rifle. Fires railroad spikes. It will fuck a dude up, man. |
| FFPFBuySchematics2 | Wow... your own stuff. That's... just stupid. Why take apart good guns? | You ain't got no artistic sense, man. There are a million different ways to kill someone, all it takes is a little imagination. |
References[edit]
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 Lone Wanderer: "You guys are pretty isolated. Where do you get your supplies?"
Pronto: "Well, the guys usually bring in what they grab on missions. I mean, you always got to kill a few people when you're gathering meat. You know, they've got some guards, the dad thinks he's a hero and pulls a gun, whatever. So, they bring that crap in here and trade it. But, mostly the only stuff I get is from these guys. And they keep the good stuff for themselves."
(Pronto/Dialogue#4) - ↑ Lone Wanderer: "Let me see your inventory."
Pronto: "I tell you, for a bunch of dumbass wasters, the boys pull some good stuff off of the new meat."
(Pronto/Dialogue#4) - ↑ Lone Wanderer: "They keep the good stuff? No wonder your selection sucks."
Pronto: "Hey, man. Rude. You don't like it, shop somewhere else. But yeah, those greedy assholes... I don't know how I'm supposed to pull down a living over here when they don't trade fair."
(Pronto/Dialogue#60) - ↑ Lone Wanderer: "Why not put a boot to their asses and take the good stuff?"
Pronto: "Because there's only one of me, man. I know you're new here, but you piss too many people off around here and you'll have trouble on your hands. And by "trouble" I mean "end up in the pens or hanging from the sign out front". No thanks. But, if you know of anyway I could get some better stock in here, maybe we could work something out. It'd give me more to trade and give those animals out there more reason to open up their pockets."
(Pronto/Dialogue#22) - ↑ Lone Wanderer: "Do you make a lot of your own stuff?"
Pronto: "Yeah, pretty much. Take it apart, put it back together. It ain't hard. Sometimes I design my own weapons too."
(Pronto/Dialogue#1) - ↑ 6.0 6.1 Eulogy Jones: "How's it goin', Pronto?"
Pronto: "I'm doin' pretty good, Eulogy. The guys have bought a ton of stock lately there somethin' big goin' down?"
Eulogy Jones: "Haha! Could be, but I wouldn't tell you even if I knew. You got my money?"
Pronto: "Got it right here, man. Enjoy."
Eulogy Jones: "You're good people, Pronto. Later."
(Pronto/Dialogue & Eulogy Jones/Dialogue) - ↑ Lone Wanderer: "What do you need? Maybe I could bring you stuff to trade."
Pronto: "Yeah... you know, I could really get this little shithole going if I had some better stuff. First thing's first, bring me some Chinese Assault Rifles. People always need 'em for parts. Twenty should get me going. I'll trade 'em off and I should be able to improve my stock pretty fast."

- ↑ 1.0 1.1 Fallout 3 Official Game Guide: Pronto: "Pronto is one of those guys who’s always been around, but you can’t remember how you met him or when he showed up. Rumor has it that he’s the son of an old Slaver, but he doesn’t get a lot of respect from them. He’s a nice guy, and nice guys don’t do well in Paradise Falls. Pronto has run Lock and Load since the last owner met an untimely end. According to Forty (then called Thirty-Two), the previous owner died when a weapon accidentally went off in his shop. If anyone knows different, they aren’t saying anything."
