Private Ortega is a soldier guarding the NCR Sharecropper Farms in Fallout: New Vegas.
Background[edit]
A trooper serving in the NCR Army for two years, Private Ortega ensures the safety of the farms. This means patrolling and taking potshots at mole rats.[1] She is thankful for the posting regardless, as it's safe, compared to eg. the Fiends containment operation.[2]
Like her superior, Lieutenant Romanowski, she believes any complaints by the sharecroppers are the result of incompetence, rather than genuine lack of resources.[3]

- With [Speech 25], the Courier can convince her to gossip about Trent Bascom.[3]
- If meeting Ortega while wearing a NCR uniform, she will not introduce herself and assume the player is also assigned to guard the farms.[4]
- Asking about work, she will direct the Courier to Camp McCarran and to look for Major Major Dhatri,[5] unless the player has already dealt with the Fiends.[6]
- Furthermore, she will direct the player to Camp McCarran or the New Vegas Medical Clinic should the player ask for a doctor.[7] Should the player ask for a merchant, she will direct them to the Crimson Caravan Company and the Gun Runners.[8]

And the next day, they'll come rushing at you pumped full of drugs and not stopping until you or they are dead."

Ortega: "It's NCR-owned farmland. It produces a lot of the crops that supply McCarran and the Dam. The farmers are all civilians, though. They work the farms, and in return they get a safe place to stay and clean food and water. Some of 'em aren't all that grateful, though."
Courier: "Who's ungrateful?"
Ortega: "I shouldn't have brought it up. It's not my place to spread gossip."
Courier: "Anything you tell me stays with me."
