Both characters and voice actors, narrators tell stories in-game as a backdrop. Narrations take place via in-game items such as overhead announcements, or intros, cutscenes, or endings.

In all games except Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel and Fallout 4, Ron Perlman voiced the narrator, including the series-wide quote, "War... War never changes." Tony Jay provided the narration in Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel and in Fallout 4, the narrative voices were provided by the Sole Survivor's voice actors, Brian T. Delaney and Courtenay Taylor.
