Labor Unions are organizations that advocate for workers' rights.

Background[edit]

Before the war, working conditions were often poor or unstable, resulting in violations of labor laws.[1] Workers rights was a theme in urban centers in locations including Appalachia and Pennsylvania. Bargaining took place between the DCTA and the Maintenance Service Union, resulting in a contract.[2][3] Shortly before the war, labor strikes were common, especially in response to unemployment brought upon by automation. Unions played a significant role in the Automation Riots of the 2070s, with many staging protests in Appalachia.

Workers attempting to unionize could be arrested and charged with sedition, as happened to A. Holbrook when they attempted to create a union at Cambridge Savings and Loan.[4] Holbrook's pamphlets You-Nionize Today! and Your Rights at Work were confiscated and turned over to federal officers. Labor unions were also associated with Boston organized crime, with an unnamed ghoul Triggerman in Vault 114 comparing the vault's unfinished state to scam construction projects that only existed to keep union members on payroll.[5]

The Miners Representation Union and the Conglomerate of Appalachian Mining Interests committees worked together to choose the Miners Monument design from hundreds of proposed sculptures, which was built in 1952.[6]
