Jesse Heinig worked at Interplay Entertainment as a programmer, scripter, and designer on Fallout. He is credited with game design for the Fallout 2 SPECIAL system. He also worked as a writer on the Fallout: The Roleplaying Game expansions, Winter of Atom and Royal Flush.

Career[edit]

Heinig finished a degree in Computer Science from California State University, Northbridge in 2008.[Ext 1][Dev 1]

Career[edit]

Heinig worked at Interplay from 1997-1998 as a scripter and designer.[Ext 1] He then moved onto White Wolf to work on their tabletop and live-action role-playing games. He worked at Decipher on their Star Trek roleplaying game, until the RPG Division was closed, and then on Call of Duty 2 as a production coordinator.[Dev 1] He then worked on Star Trek Online for a bit less than 14 years as a Content Lead and Senior Game Designer. He left in April 2024, and joined Blizzard as a Senior Game Designer II.[Ext 1]

Fallout Series[edit]

For the Fallout Demo, Heinig worked on the dog found in Scrapheap.[Ext 2]

Jesse Heinig joined the Fallout development team partway through development, right before the swap to SPECIAL from GURPS. He lobbied for the inclusion of companions, the Power Fist, and the Empathy perk. Mariposa Military Base, Shady Sands and the Glow were partly scripted by him.[Dev 1] Additionally, the companions, including Ian and Tycho as well as ZAX was scripted by him. He also set up Junktown, and scripted characters in Vault 13, Junktown, Adytum, the Glow, and the Military Base, alongside working on random encounters.[Dev 2] He also implemented "quests, dialogs, and scripted sequences in several areas of the game, including the locations of Junktown, parts of Vault 13, various random encounters, and the companion characters."[Ext 1]

In Winter of Atom, Jesse was brought on the team as a writer due to his previous work on Fallout and Fallout 2. He wrote a chapter about war and protecting various settlements from danger.[Dev 3]
