A Jackalope or Jackelope[1] is a mentioned-only cryptid.
Background[edit]
Fallout 2[edit]
The Word List for Daniel Bird mentions making the Jackalope the "new national mascot," followed by the question "is this an American creature?"[2] Mole Rats may be named "Jackelope" if the Chosen One chooses to participate in Molerat Mambo in Redding.[1]
Fallout 76[edit]
A Jackalope Plushie and Jackalope Gun Rack are C.A.M.P. objects that can be obtained in Fallout 76. The creature is also seen on the sign for Priblos' Curios and mentioned in the Rip Daring and the Cryptid Hunt radio play. A taxidermy bust of the Jackalope was added as C.A.M.P. wall decor items, including the Mounted Jackalope Head and Mounted Winter Jackalope Head. There are also two Fasnacht masks, the Fasnacht Jackalope Mask and Fasnacht Glowing Jackalope Mask.

Behind the Scenes[edit]
- The word "Jackalope" comes from a combination of Jack Rabbit and Antelope, though most Jackalope taxidermy mounts are made from deer antlers.
- A Jackalope is a kind of cryptid called a Fearsome Critter, who's tall tales originate from oral tradition passed on over many years. In the 1930s, the Jackalope was popularized at a hotel in Douglas, Wyoming, which was selling the taxidermied beast.
- Taxidermy Jackalopes fall into the catagory of "Gaff Taxidermy," in which a taxidermist combines multiple creatures together to create something new, mysterious, and eye-catching. Other famous Gaff Taxidermies include the Fiji Mermaid, and the Fur-Bearing Trout.
