Corporal Betsy is a member of the New California Republic Army stationed at Camp McCarran in Fallout: New Vegas.
Background[edit]
Betsy is a sniper who is currently assigned to Alpha Team of the NCR Army's First Recon.[1] She is very focused on her work, telling the Courier that otherwise, they will end up dead.[2][3] She states that her job requires her to head shot individuals on drugs who "doesn't even know that [they are] the bad guy," which effects her conscience.[4][5] The First Recon is led by Lieutenant Gorobets, who has kept the group inside Camp McCarran for six months, manning the towers and sniping nearby Fiends.[6][7][8]
Snipers in the NCR work in pairs, spotting for one another and watching each other's backs, and Betsy's partner is 10 of Spades.[9] She says she likes him because he listens and doesn't hit on her.[10] She lets him wear eyeglasses, calling them his "training shades" when in actuality it is due to his poor eyesight.[11] Betsy volunteered to partner with 10 of Spades when no one else would, due to his lack of experience.[12]
Corporal Betsy struggles with anger and behavioral issues due to trauma she experienced when she was sexually assaulted by one of the Fiend leaders, Cook-Cook.[13][14] Her partner 10 of Spades blames himself, as he was knocked unconscious during the attack.[15][16] Betsy respects her commanding officer, who states that her behavior is inappropriate, but he would prefer she sought treatment instead of punishing her.[17][18]
Betsy is initially reluctant to seek help, refusing to acknowledged that the experience has impacted her or that seeing a doctor would be of any benefit.[19][20] Gorobets mentions that Betsy may not want to look bad in the eyes of the rest of First Recon.[21]
The Courier can convince Betsy that mental trauma is no different than other injuries such as bullet wounds.[22] The Courier can reiterate that several individuals have sought medical help for trauma with positive results, including 10 of Spades, Sergeant Bitter-Root, and Corporal Sterling.[23][24][25] Doctor Usanagi is well-qualified to treat mental trauma and agrees to clear her schedule to assist Betsy.[26][27] Following treatment, Betsy admits that she is feeling better, and she isn't so angry all the time.[28]
Corporal Betsy is a lesbian and will flirt with a female Courier if her Charisma is 7 or greater.[29][30][31][32][33] Possessing the Cherchez La Femme perk will allow the Courier to acknowledge her advances.[34][35][36]

Notes[edit]
- Upon completing the Driver Nephi portion of the Three-Card Bounty quest by claiming Nephi's bounty, Alpha Team moves to Camp Forlorn Hope to help with the Legion at Nelson. Betsy can then be found in the Camp Forlorn Hope barracks.
- Upon completing the Cook-Cook portion of the Three-Card Bounty quest, Corporal Betsy will show her appreciation by awarding his killer with $380 NCR.[37]
- If Betsy dies, 10 of Spades will comment on her passing. If 10 of Spades dies, Betsy will express her feelings about it.[38][39]
Appearances[edit]
Corporal Betsy appears in Fallout: New Vegas.
Behind the Scenes[edit]
Corporal Betsy was written by George Ziets.[Dev 1]
Bugs[edit]
- Upon moving to Camp Forlorn Hope, the Courier may not be able to talk to Betsy for the quest I Don't Hurt Anymore. This may also affect their interaction with Corporal Sterling and prevent the player from completing Raul's personal quest.
- The above may happen if confirmed that Cook-Cook is dead. A possible workaround is to talk to Lieutenant Gorobets.
