Bridge Keeper is a special encounter in Fallout 2.
Gameplay[edit]
To experience this encounter, the Chosen One is required to be at least level 10. They find themself in front of a large chasm spanned by a rope bridge, the latter being blocked by a brown-robed figure, the Bridgekeeper.
In order to proceed to the exit grid on the other side, the Chosen One can either:
- attack the Bridgekeeper, resulting in him turning hostile and getting support of an explosive mad brahmin.
- answer three questions correctly, with false answers resulting in their immediate death.
Replying to the Bridgekeeper's questions with the correct counterquestion results in his death. A Chosen One with less than four Intelligence gets asked either the first or the second question and also gets a different third question, with all replies being in-character.
The first question is about the Chosen One's name.

- Attacking and killing the Bridgekeeper without answering his questions grants 7,500 XP and results in a loss of 10 Karma.
Notes[edit]
- Out of all special encounters, this encounter has the highest probability of occurring.
- Both the Chosen One and the Bridgekeeper may break the fourth wall:
- Before the encounter, the Chosen One states that "For some reason, I think I should save my game in a brand new slot."
- After the encounter and if alive, the Bridgekeeper complains about his acting career and contemplates over getting into repairing cars instead.[1]
Behind the Scenes[edit]
This encounter is a reference to the "Bridge of Death" scene from the comedic film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
References[edit]
- ↑ Bridgekeeper: "I never get to ask the good questions. I am going to talk to my agent about all this. I keep telling him I have to stop doing these cheese gigs. How am I ever going to get respect that I deserve being in low budget movies and video games. Hmmm.. I should really think about getting into car repair. I hear that is where all the money is made these days."
(Bridgekeeper's dialogue)
