This is a well researched review which again highlights the need for further research, variable data and potentially variation in surgical technique. It highlights the need for prospective studies and a more homogenous standard for surgical treatment of deep infiltrating endometriosis.

In this systematic review of 38 studies, Ianieri et al. present data which shed light on the recurrence of colorectal endometriosis after surgery. However, one caveat is that the recurrence data varies among the studies, especially because there are different appraisals of what recurrence is, and there are different lengths of follow up reported (in general 2 to 4 years). As suspected, in the longer studies, more recurrences occur.
