Days 20, 21, 22 and 23 (oopsie)

Day 20 -- A hobby of yours

I love to make my own clothes. This mostly means dresses, although I've made lots of skirts and handbags in the past. I am currently working on a jacket. And, not to discount my other hobby (being online and contributing to "the interwebs". Est. 1997), I blog about it on Seamstress Sophie, a Wordpress-hosted blog.

I also love to draw, but haven't done figure drawing in ages. I don't like still lives at all, and finding people willing to be drawn (and able to stay still) is a challenge. If anyone is feeling narcissistic enough to be in a drawing or painting, PLEASE tell me!!

Something that I hope to never give up is reading. The best escape and food for the soul and spirit I have ever found.

I guess that's 4 hobbies then... And to think... There's more... At least I'll have a busy retirement!! :D

Day 21 -- A recipe
My favourite Brownies recipe can be found on Pure Gourmandise, and works every time. I recommend roasting the hazelnuts in the oven for 2 minutes before using them. And as I can't find dark chocolate with hazelnuts in it, I just use plain dark chocolate and more hazelnuts instead. Really yummy!!

Day 22 -- A website

The Art of Manliness. Can't remember how I discovered it, but I wish all men would read it and rediscover the history of their gender. There's entirely too many sites dedicated to women and fashion already.

I would also like to recommend Oddee, a "best N somethings" site that collates a list each day. Today's one about creative 404 errors is priceless!! It's nice to start the day with a giggle.

Day 23 -- A YouTube video
I'm not big on YouTube...

Day 19 -- A talent of yours

talent....?

I can draw / paint passably well, but I'm not sure I'm "talented".

I am, however, surprisingly good with languages. Everyone seems stunned even though to me it's nearly effortless. So maybe that's a "talent". I've managed to be fluent in 4 (perfectly trilingual with a 4th in progress, and no foreign accents piercing through any of the 4) while having studied 7 (if you count my 4 months of latin as "studied"). So maybe that's my talent? Languages?

If that's the case, then what the hell am I doing working in IT with visually creative hobbies? I've always wanted to write a book. And every NaNoWriMo I start one... but never get very far. I wonder if I'd have enough discipline to finish one. Maybe some day :) My 31st birthday is looming ahead (in less than 2 months) and this might be an interesting objective to set myself for the year to come. Write a book. Even if it's a collection of short stories. Or a children's book. Just start writing something and keep going until it's finished. That'd be nice. *makes mental note*

Days 17 and 18 (oopsie, forgot yesterday)

Day 17 -- An art piece (painting, drawing, sculpture, etc.)
One of my favourite paintings is Klimt's the kiss. I generally love his style and his use of gold and textures and patterns in his paintings. It is no wonder that some of his greatest works are murals.

Day 18 -- Whatever tickles your fancy

A Gooooorgeous jacket for Spring / Summer 2010 by Vivienne Westwood. (£435 at Liberty)

Alternatively, this dress is tickling my fancy too. Also Vivienne Westwood. (£215 at Liberty)

Day 05 -- Your favorite quote

Well, there's several of these too... So here's more of a top 5.

5 - Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe. Albert Einstein.

4 - He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches. George Bernard Shaw.

3 - Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. Oscar Wilde.

2 - I don't mind living in a Man's world. As long as I can be a Woman in it. Marilyn Monroe.

And, my overall favourite in the whole world (one that engineers and designers should get tattooed onto their forearms, if not foreheads):

1 - Imagination is more important than knowledge. Albert Einstein.

For someone who craves information, education and knowledge, it is somewhat ironic that 4 of my favourite quotes focus on the topic, and generally make fun of it. Wonder if that means anything... *scratches head*

Day 04 -- Your favorite book

Favourite book? ONE favourite book? Ummm... Houston, we have a problem...There's too many of them... I'll try to do one by genre, how's that?...

Fantasy: Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey
Adventure/Mystery: Arsene Lupin contre Herlock Sholmes by Maurice Leblanc
Humorous: La Ballatta delle Prugne Secche by Pulsatilla
Historical: Il Tiranno by Valerio Massimo Manfredi
Spiritual: Wicca: A Comprehensive Guide to the Old Religion in the Modern World by Vivianne Crowley
Crafty: The Sewing Book by Alison Smith
Techie: Web Design in a Nutshell (A Desktop Quick Reference) by O'Reilly / C by Kernigan and Richie. It's a tie.
Fashion: The Golden Age of Couture: Paris and London 1947-1957 by Claire Wilcox
Classics: Splendeurs et Misères des courtisanes by Balzac / Macbeth by Shakespeare. Another tie.
Poetry: Fatras by Jacques Prévert / Ποιήματα by Κωνσταντίνο Καβάφη (Poems by Constantine Kavafy) / Les Fleurs du Mal by Charles Baudelaire. Oooh! A triplet!!

There's other books I have loved, but these are the ones I'd always want to have on my bookshelf. Always.
Needless to say I have a somewhat crowded bookshelf...

30 day meme -

30 day meme....
As found on zoecb's LJ.

Collapse )

So being quite bored, I've decided to try it out, but with a little twist. I'll write daily, for every day in February. And on the 28th I'll post the last 3 (28-29-30) As we're the 3rd of Feb, I've got a little bit of catching up to do. So.

Day 01 -- Your favorite song
We didn't start the fire - Billy Joel
Still remember seeing the videoclip back in Greece on Mtv. Must've been 8? 9? Loved it since then. No idea how on earth I understood the words, as I hadn't studied english yet. Might be a subtitled-in-greek american cartoon overdose. Either way, bless the TV for teaching me english. Heh. (pet peeve: dubbed shows for children or movies for adults. If they don't speak it, let them read it, or wait until they learn it! Plus you lose a LOT of the acting, too!)

Day 02 -- Your favorite movie
Run, Lola, Run (Lola rennt)
One of many that I loved watching, keep recommending, and can't ever forget...

Day 03 -- Your favorite television program
Big Bang Theory? How I met your mother? Top Gear? I'm not a huge television fan, but will be an unhappy bunny if I miss one of these if they're on. Maybe because the remaining programming is such crap.
