Temporary account IP viewer
- Have an account which is at least 6 months old and which has made at least 300 edits
- Agree to use the IP addresses in accordance with the Foundation's guidelines, solely for the investigation or prevention of vandalism, abuse, or other violations of Wikimedia Foundation or community policies, and understand the risks and responsibilities associated with this privilege
The above requirements are from the Wikimedia Foundation, and are not subject to admin discretion. Additionally, admins must be satisfied that the requesting user has a demonstrated need for access (for example, work at new page patrol, counter-vandalism, or sockpuppet investigations), and are permitted to decline applicants who meet these criteria but are otherwise unsuitable for access to this tool.
Once you have been granted the permission, you must check the box Preferences → User profile →

Requesting temporary account IP viewer rights to help with counter-vandalism on Eastern European and Balkan articles. This will also let me spot disruptive and banned accounts and catch sockpuppet evasion. Nishjan (talk) 18:31, 18 July 2026 (UTC)

I'd like to request temporary account IP viewer rights, just in case more than one temporary account disrupts Wikipedia. I reported two edit wars, one containing multiple unregistered users and one with a registered user. On a template, I also reverted vandalism two weeks after a temporary account vandalized it. I regularly check for and remove/tag certain blog/tabloid sources that are frequently reintroduced to pages by nobility SPAs, many of whom are block-evading. When I can identify an IP-hopping LOUTSOCK (e.g. "Brazil IP obsessed with descendants of Pedro II") it's easier to anticipate where else disruption might be occurring under different IP addresses.
