There appears to be a lot of spam regarding this non-notable record company, and I've been in the process of removing it. Most of it was several years ago, but I think blocking it would be a good preventive measure nonetheless. Why? I Ask (talk) 05:50, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Domain blacklist

edit

Kindly make this domain whitelist zivallo.pk thank you it's news platform some times many people have to use it 182.190.219.14 (talk) 11:08, 5 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@182.190.219.14: Please read the instructions at the top of this page. This is not the whitelist, this is the blacklist request page. --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:50, 5 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@182.190.291.14: whatever, Rejected. Spammed by a good handful of IPs in your range, in other words, likely spammed by you. --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:49, 5 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi, How can i whitelist this domain? 182.190.219.210 (talk) 10:52, 9 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

stormer5v52vjsw66jmds7ndeecudq444woadhzr2plxlaayexnh6eqd.onion

edit

As with dailystormer.name below, this is an official domain for The Daily Stormer - in this case it is the official Tor Onion address (v3) which should replace the v2 address in the article. --Bombuzal (talk) 15:33, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Bombuzal: no Declined, there is no reason to link to the .onion, we only do that for websites that have the .onion as only website, or when they are the subject of a website. --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:51, 5 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

dailystormer.name

edit

This domain isn't associated with spam and is in fact the current URL for The Daily Stormer as of 4th February 2022. See post entitled: The Daily Stormer - Thursday Meme Surprise: Remember that Dot Name!" on the website. Bombuzal (talk) 15:27, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Bombuzal: no Declined, Defer to Whitelist. Is this even blacklisted? --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:52, 5 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Beetstra: Yes, it is actually blacklisted. There is an archive of the blacklisting with your signature at January_2022#dailystormer.su --Bombuzal (talk) 20:29, 5 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Bombuzal: oK, still Defer to Whitelist for specific links on this domain, please read the instructions (note that no links were whitelisted for this site before, the remark 'whitelisted=yes' on the .onion is false, and we would not whitelist to be allowed to add another official website anyway. --Dirk Beetstra T C 04:09, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Beetstra: Thank you. Done. --Bombuzal (talk) 14:02, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

kickstarter.com

edit

This is fairly commonly linked to for things that were funded through Kickstarter (see Veronica Mars (film), for example) . At present, I can't update the 'Top projects by funds raised' section on Kickstarter, because it's not letting me include links to Kickstarter, even though every other citation that was already there linked to Kickstarter. JorWat (talk) 09:50, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@JorWat: no Declined, sites like kickstarter, and similar petition sites, are actively being used on Wikipedia in violation of WP:SOAPBOX. Kickstarter is also used to spam to raise funds. What is needed from kickstarter can be whitelisted selectively if it is deemed significant. --Dirk Beetstra T C 15:20, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

peterdaszak.com

edit

Link/text requested to be blacklisted: https://peterdaszak.com This is a conspiracy theorist website, not actually affiliated with the named subject, which is unsuitable for use anywhere on Wikipedia (and it is an egregious BLP violation). Should be blacklisted (least of all on the page where it was used...). RandomCanadian (talk / contribs) 16:03, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

rawstory.com

edit

English Wikipedia itself has a page on the outlet, The Raw Story, which makes a compelling and lengthy case that this isn't a reliable source. -- Zanimum (talk) 04:58, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Zanimum: can you please link here to some representative WP:RSN/WP:RSP discussions that this is deprecated and often mis-used (or even abused)? We don't blacklist just on the basis that things are unreliable, we do that only with independent consensus that using such a source leads to disproportionate amount of extra work. --Dirk Beetstra T C 07:56, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I wasn't aware. The site was used in a reference in an article with significant daily traffic, which made me aware of the site. -- Zanimum (talk) 14:40, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
There is consensus at RSP that it is unreliable, but currently no consensus to denylist. 🐶 EpicPupper (he/him | talk) 00:15, 9 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

accio-quote.org

edit

See List of 55 articles, many with very high pageviews (eg Harry Potter), including FAs and GAs, using citations hosted by accio-quote.org in breach of WP:ELNEVER. Accio-quote seems to exist only to host scanned news sources without indications of copyright release. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:13, 8 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@SandyGeorgia: Added to MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. I'm still convinced that these should be on meta, but they think that it is legal on other wikis. --Dirk Beetstra T C 03:30, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Beetstra - Good call; thanks for doing that. I apologize for any "turmoil" that my title blacklist change may have caused. I believed at the time that it was a legitimate entry, and... whelp... it ended up causing some users a bit of confusion here. Yay for me... Anyways, I'm just glad that it's fixed. :-) Cheers! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:03, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

A series of knockoff black hat seo/scam sites

edit

Came across this set of knock off sites today pretending to be Forbes, The Grammy's, Billboard and NYT today - they even go as far as to link to the real companies social media, however they're just knockoffs attempting to look like the real deal and being used to promote non-notable companies/individuals/spam. pixa.pics

The user spamming this pixa.pics link (Which is also conveniently the name of the product they were promoting) in the Pixel Art article has already been blocked from editing, but they keep insisting in their talk page that the website should be included (which it shouldn't). Here's a link to the edit warring report I filed yesterday, and the talk page in which the discussion continued after the block.

The user is not only wrong about the site's relevance in the Pixel Art article, but we also know almost nothing of the site. It doesn't appear in most search engines and the few results that pop up when looked up as "pixa.pics" (forced quotes) circle back to the author's pages. It is also clearly related to an NFT scheme as shown in the report. This is link is very likely dangerous and disruptive to the encyclopedia, and it has been spammed in over 8 revisions. Preceding unsigned comment added by ClockworkChemist (talkcontribs)

Not done I see no evidence of other attempts to spam this site, so there isn't a compelling reason to blacklist at this time. Blacklisting is only appropriate when other methods of control have been exhausted; at the moment, the block seems to suffice. OhNoitsJamie Talk 18:59, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

antispoofing.org

Obvious sockpuppetry (additions on all accounts use the edit summary 'minor changes'). Site seems to be someone's personal wiki project, not a reliable source. - MrOllie (talk) 19:28, 16 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Media scraper/copyvio sites

edit

As I was performing link maintenance on the ~10000 references in the monthly Deaths in 2021 pages, I noticed and removed several references to what appear to me to be scraper sites. These seem similar to a few dozen sites that were blacklisted a few weeks ago over copyvio concerns. Should these be reported here? Many of these are in use on 50+ pages, presumably from users who perceived them as legitimate news sources.

bingepost.com

This site appears to blatantly copy articles from other sites (two were from Variety); spammed by at least four users. Added to MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. --OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:20, 19 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Srivastava Group

edit

There was consensus in a recent RfC in favor of blacklisting all urls operated by the Srivastava Group. I've listed the three main ones above. There are hundreds of other urls, some of which are listed in the discussion in the RfC. I don't think most of the others are being cited to, so I'll leave them up to the discretion of whoever is going to implement this. Tayi Arajakate Talk 19:59, 10 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Tayi Arajakate: Added to MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. Please list also the others here in a subsection of this section, no need to wait for future work. --Dirk Beetstra T C 02:35, 11 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Other urls set 1 - Interactive map

edit

Beetstra, I've copy pasted the list derived from the Interactive Map and below it listed some of the prominent urls featured in the Indian Chronicle investigation which was published afterwards, note that even this isn't the full list which would need to be scraped from the various investigations of the disinfo lab. The BBC article states that there are at least 750 websites. Tayi Arajakate Talk 04:37, 12 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
