1st Caucasus Rifle Regiment

The 1st Caucasian Rifle Regiment (Russian: Кавказский 1-й стрелковый полк) was a regiment in the Imperial Russian Army.[1]

History

Formed in Helsinki on 10 July 1837, it was first known as the 1st Rifle Battalion.[2] The battalion was then sent to the Caucasus and was renamed into the Caucasian Rifle Battalion. The battalion was sent to fight in the Caucasian War in 1845, where they fought in the Siege of Kars.[2] On 6 December 1856 it was renamed into the Caucasian Grenadier Rifle Battalion.

The regiment was then deployed on the Caucuses frontier of World War I.[3] The regiment was disbanded on March 16, 1918, along with other units of the 1st Caucasian Rifle Division.[4]

The 1st Caucasian Rifle Regiment is a part of the 1st Caucasian Rifle Brigade in the 1st Caucasus Army Corps.[5]
