Request for Review and suggestions: Lizzie Johnson

edit

Hi! I recently added a page for this journalist, Lizzie Johnson, whose career at the Washington Post took a surprising turn this month when she was laid off by email while in a war zone in Ukraine. I would love any advice or similar-ish people to model from. I have done some women-in-red scientists in the past, but am now doing a few independent journalists -- none of this works without independent, reliable sources doing actual reporting...

Also, if anyone felt like giving it a Review, that would be nice too ;) I'm not sure why the (small handful of) other pages I've created got reviewed so much faster...

Thanks for any help you can offer! Chris vLS (talk) 00:56, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

I can try to help over time. I'm new to Wikipedia but can offer many years of experience in the journalism field.
I don't know where is best to "give it a Review" or give small specific feedback: your talk page? a sandbox?
On an initial look, I'm not sure about sourcing to direct tweets. Do they qualify as a Reliable Source?
Also, I think being a finalist for the Livingston Award is not so notable? Winning the award has definitely been hard for lots of people. Finalist? Not so notable.
An example of a Wikipedia entry on an accomplished female journalist who started out young in the profession, and I'm pretty sure tried for the Livingston and apparently didn't get it. She got more stuff later though:

An example of a Wikipedia entry on a foreign correspondent:

Proposed deletion of Giles Whittell

edit

I have proposed Giles Whittell for deletion for the reason:

Poorly sourced for 10 years, and a Google search 10 pages back for his name does not yield any independent sources or any sources that significantly cover him as a person.

If anyone can find and add notability-establishing sources, please do so. Rand Freeman (talk to me) 04:50, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

He's mentioned in a 2025 post about The Observer's editor leaving. He's a deputy to the new editor in chief.

Hullo

edit

Hey, I'm completely new to this, so I apologise if this isn't the correct way to do this, but I would like to contribute to this project.

I read a lot of collections of journalism, but also books on journalism history and autobiographies by journalists, and I like to write down interesting passages and facts on index cards.

Let me know if you'd like to know anything else about me, and any suggestions for how to start contributing as a beginner would be very welcome.

Thanks OtisDriftwoodIII (talk) 10:05, 18 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Welcome!
I think your first few edits have been a really great way to start to get a feel for Wikipedia without trying to do too much too fast.
Autobiographies probably have more limited use Wikipedia when compared to books on journalism history for example since they are more of a primary source.
An article I found interesting when getting into journalism articles was Journalism genres - it both needs work in terms of citations and explanations while also linking to and suggesting a lot of different topics (including historically-focused ones if that's what you are already reading/most interested in) Superb Owl (talk) 16:53, 18 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks!
The 'Outline of journalism' linked in the 'See also' section of that journalism genres article is interesting too. I've not encountered many (if any) wiki pages that were an "overview of and topical guide to" a subject, but there's some great content. OtisDriftwoodIII (talk) 08:13, 20 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Martin D'Souza

edit
Notice

The article Martin D'Souza has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Poorly sourced BLP, with probable cause that it is an autobiography.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion based on established criteria.

If the proposed deletion has already been carried out, you may request undeletion of the article at any time. Bearian (talk) 15:37, 22 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
