it's been a Very Long Day

Someone needs to explain to me why clicking on the comments link for LJ posts now takes me to the comments, instead of the post itself. Or, like, how to actually get to the post now. Even if you could argue that the comments link now lives up to its name, what exactly am I supposed to use as the permanent link for a post? Without erasing stuff out of the URL, I mean, because how is that user friendly? This was/is/who knows one of my least favorite features of DW, and now it's HERE. Gnargh. How do I make it STOP DOING THAT?



ETA: since I don't have the patience right now to figure out what I'm doing wrong in the code that I can't add a "link" link to the "X comments | leave a comment" options, I have decided to make the post subject lines the permalink, which makes things linked-colored instead of black, but that is currently the less irritating option.

Hmmm. It's pretty much always gone to the comments and then I scroll up to the post itself. Maybe it's something to do with whichever layout you use?

As for the direct link post, in the layout I use, there's a "link" link that you click if you want to start at the top of the post instead of with the comments.

Yeah...it looks like your layout doesn't have the link option or the title as a link option that others do. You could probably muck about with the code in your layout to get the comments to link to the main post if you want to try that.

Oy. I'm using the default comments layout, which, no, doesn't have a "link" option. Never has. And I suppose I can put a "link" link into my flist view layout, but this wasn't an issue this morning and never has been before, so something changed. SIGH.

Changes like that really are so annoying since they come out of the blue and usually make something harder for half the people while aiming to make it easier for the rest. meh.

You can get to the post by clicking on the title of the post (depending on your style, i guess) - this is what I do on DW, I guess I'll have to start doing it here now.

Oh, and as Boofadil says, the "link" link also works.

Yeah, it's the LJ default comments view, which hasn't ever had a "link" link, or a post title link. Feh. I guess I'll see if it's still doing it tomorrow, and if it is, I'll put my own "link" link into my flist view.

Oh, but in happier thoughts, yay about your laptop! I hope it lasts forever and ever.

It takes me to the post, just, it brings me down to start at the comments. So if it's a loooooong post (like fic) and I click the "X comments" link from my flist just to pull it into another tab to read later, I end up having to scroll up to the top, because it didn't bring me to the permalink but to the anchor where the comments start.

Which is totally just me pissing and moaning, because I am fully capable of scrolling up or hitting "home." But it didn't work this way this morning! And now it seems to do this no matter what browser I'm in or who's style I'm in. Like yours, which is mine, I think, just with color and your sidebar on the other side -- the other day, when I was playing with your flist to catch more vidding people, I could click the comments link and it was the permalink, but now it's not.

Now I am potentially even more confused. So...if you're on my journal page and you click on the link for this post that says "X comments," that brings you to the permalink for the page (http://elishavah.livejournal.com/415318.html)?

Because even when I'm logged out, clicking on "X comments" is giving me "http://elishavah.livejournal.com/415318.html#comments". Which is not what it has ever done before.
