Podfic ask meme: 5 and 66?
5. Do you prefer making one-shots or multi-chaptered podfics?
My track record says oneshots, but it’s not something I ever really think about or consider when deciding what to pod? I wouldn’t say it’s a preference as much as it’s just uh wanting to get things done lmao
Which feels a bit counterintuitive, right? Bc I’ve done oneshots a 100 words long and those are obviously easy to finish, but I’ve also done oneshots over 30k long and you’d think those would be easier to pod in chunks, which is what I did anyway, so why not go with a chaptered story in the first place?
And I think this is probably less of a podficcing preference and more of a reading one? My ideal fic is a 70k oneshot all dropped at once lessgo! So naturally I find myself podficcing a lot of stories like that as well. Well. Not exactly like that, I’ve yet to podfic one that long haha
66. What’s something you’re particularly good at in podficcing?
Uuuuuhhhh well it’s not the podficcing part XD that is, it’s not any of the voice work, I wouldn’t say? Although my perception might be a bit skewed because it’s not the part I enjoy the most, which is not the same as being good at it, so who knows? Maybe?
I really enjoy editing but I wouldn’t say I’m particularly good at it?
Idk maybe cover art? Feels like a copout since it’s a bit like saying ‘I think I can do my actual literal job!’ like yeah, one would hope lol
BUT while they’re not all bangers and I def phone it in sometimes, I do generally put a lot of effort into most and take an amount of pride in them, so I’m sticking with cover art.

Hi elany <3 For the podfic ask meme: 6, 19, and 28 please ^^
6. Do you prefer podficcing fic you already know, or cold-reading?
For a number of reasons I never do cold reads.
A part of it is just that I’m a really picky reader and even of the fic I like I only want to podfic some? So if I went in completely blind I’d probably drop like 90% of projects I started.
I also fumble lines so much that I think recording as I read would ruin my enjoyment of the fic.
Lastly, when recording I sorta idk, zone out? Does that happen to anybody else? I’ll hit record and 20 minutes later I’ll have no idea what I just read. I’ll keep an eye out for the emotions and atmosphere and any voices I need to do, but the story itself falls by the wayside.
So 100% things I already know, I don’t think I’d read much fic or finish much podfic if I attempted cold reads.
19. Have you ever hit a podfic roadblock or dry spell? How did you deal with it?
Right now kinda sorta 😭 I haven’t recorded anything in half a year and the last time I tried it went horribly and I gave up 😩 so if anybody’s got advice I’d love to hear it!
28. What podfic do you wish you got more of a response on?
Hmmm nothing immediately comes to mind, which is already a good sign I’d say.
In fact, even after looking through my works I still feel I’m generally pretty happy with how they’ve been received! It’s podfic, so I never expect much to begin with and every kudos is basically a small miracle.
So I’m choosing Bone to bone for no other reason than I like it and it’s not one of my more popular works C:

8. Has another podfic ever inspired you to try something new?
In a very real sense other podfic inspired me to start podficcing at all 😄 my entire reason for starting is that I love podfic and wanted to give back to the community.
So in that way yes, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard idk a technique or a sfx or anything that’d make me go !! I need to try that!
It has happened with podcasts before though, eg. for a time I got really into soundscaping because of TMA
38. Do you use sound sound effects? What’s your favourite?
Yeah, sometimes! I don’t know that I have a favourite though, I don’t think I’ve ever used any more than once.
Wait, nope, a while back I made a soundscape for like, a cosy living room—a fireplace, a clock, some misc sounds, a warm room noise, that kinda thing, which I needed for a specific pod and then later reused for a different podfic as the only soundscape in it, since it was just a minute long thing.
Does that automatically make it my favourite?
51. Which podfic was the fastest/easiest to make, and why?
Not counting multivoices where I had just one line 😂 it’s still gotta be one of my shorter pods, right?
Although, turns out the one that immediately came to mind is also fully soundscaped 😂 but considering that’s the pod from question 38 that I stole the soundscape for from a different project, I think it still counts haha
And Destiny was also a breeze!
