The Hierophant's purpose is to bring the spiritual down to Earth. Where the High Priestess between her two pillars deals with realms beyond this Earth, the Hierophant (or High Priest) deals with worldly problems. He is well suited to do this because he strives to create harmony and peace in the midst of a crisis. The Hierophant's only problem is that he can be stubborn and hidebound. At his best, he is wise and soothing, at his worst, he is an unbending traditionalist.

After reading through the firestorm of spuriosity that passes for the climate "debate" at various sites, and returning here, I'm moved to expand upon my previous comments about my own "scientifically informed agnosticism".

I'm coming to the conclusion that the greenhouse skepticism put forward by pundits like Bjorn Lomborg is akin to creation science - similar in its climbing over mountains of hard evidence for a crumb of doubt, a crumb which dissolves in your hand as soon as you pick it up. Similar also in its roots - psychological, epistemological, economic and political. And similar in its effect - tending towards a generalised dumbing down of public discourse and a discrediting of the process of science. ( Read more...Collapse )

What I find interesting is that Satanism and Christianity both scored the same. I guess it's the whole paradigm that I can't relate to. But overall, this describes my "religious" beliefs fairly well - a scientifically informed agnosticism with practical pagan/buddhist leanings. Intellectually I can never fully dismiss the idea of non-corporeal consciousness, because I'm still waiting for humanity to work out exactly -how- weird matter, space, time and energy are, and just what might be hidden in the folds of the origamiverse. And that other part of mysElf which is not intellect lives in a place of connection to something Other, which refuses to be named.
