Lubricus and Current Events (Covid-19)

  • Lubricus is still on: The Lubricus Con Com has discussed the current events and is monitoring the situation carefully. At this time we have no plans to cancel or postpone our October 2020 event and are monitoring the situation as it develops.

  • Social Distancing: Many people are reporting positive aspects of quarantine and social distancing, even as some suffer hardships in employment and cancellations costs. But staying home can be very relaxing, and the best thing about being in a fandom is that there is a lot of amazing content out there to keep one's attention for long periods. Perhaps now is the time to re-read that epic Snarry from 2009, or to catch up on those fanvids you've been saving on your Watch Later list on Youtube. Meaning to catch up or get familiar with a new fandom via Netflix? Now is your chance.

  • Self-Care: Remember self care during this time: Get out into the fresh air away from crowds. Exercise or stretch if you can. Eat fresh food wherever possible. Spring clean. Don't forget to take a break between online or TV content, or turn it right off if it's causing you anxiety. Facetime, Google chat or Zoom Cconference friends and family.

Thinking of you, and sending positive patronuses

djin7: Lubricus 2020 (Lubricus)

Professor Snape is not pleased, but the slashy gang who brought you Lubricus in 2011 and 2012 is back and better than ever! Lubricus 2020: The Reunion will be a slash-filled weekend chock full of squee, old friends and new, smut, arts/crafts, food, dancing, and so much more! Programming is entirely attendee-driven, so that means you get to decide what kind of content you want to have at the con. Here are the key details you need to know…

Dates: October 29, 2020 to November 1, 2020

Location: Crowne Plaza Portland

Costs: Base registration starts at $140 with increasing levels of sponsorship registration

What is this con all about?

The Con That Shall Not Be Named (aka Lubricus) is a fan-inspired and fan-run wizarding slash convention presented by By Fans 4 Fans. Although the first two iterations of Lubricus were limited to Harry Potter slash, Lubricus 2020 will be mutlifandom. Because attendees get to determine the Slashy programming, we can't say what will be featured yet, but expect to see Doctor Who, Marvel/Avengers, Sherlock, Star Trek, Star Wars, Supernatural, and many more. Remember, you get to decide!

Ganked this from [livejournal.com profile] a_carnal_mink : 2019 Year in Review.

1. What did you do in 2019 that you'd never done before?  Go to a massive Stadium Concert (New Jersey! Met Life!)

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? I don't tend to make them? I quit smoking 10 years ago this month, but that was a decision I had made in October the year before. I do get ideas and try to bring them to fruition. I don't pressure myself.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Nope

4. Did anyone close to you die? I lost a dear, old friend in August, she was only 51. One of my sisters-in-law lost *both* her aging parents this year.  Fuck cancer, anyways.

5. What countries did you visit? Just the USA a couple of times: NY/NJ, WA and CA.

6. What would you like to have in 2020 that you lacked in 2019? Less pain, more energy. Working on it with my new doctor! :)

7. What dates from 2019 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? Nothing specific hits me. There were many important events but my mind doesn't focus on the day of the year, generally.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?  It hasn't been a great year for energy for me. If I get some housework done on the weekend, I consider it an achievement worthy of braggadoccio. See #6

9. What was your biggest failure?  Saving money

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Yes, a few this year. Mostly minor, pinched nerves, etc, or dental, nothing requiring hospitalization.

11. What was the best thing you bought? Concert tickets, as always.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration? BTS, Greta and her co-horts. The young people of this world fighting for change and peace. It gives me hope.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed? Who else? Politicians, billionnaires. If they are both, they are the worst.

14. Where did most of your money go?  Concerts, music, dental work, animal care. The usual.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? BTS, going on third year.  A few concerts. Getting a new doctor, finally

16. What song will always remind you of 2019? BTS "Boy With Luv".

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
  • i. happier or sadder?  Happier, yes.
  • ii. thinner or fatter? Fatter. Working on it. See #6
  • iii. richer or poorer? mmm holding steady. Paying off debt where I can.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Seen my friends more often. Kept my house in order. Go outside. Saved more money.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Internet. Sleeping. Being grumpy.

20. How did you spend Christmas?  I am lucky to be able to go to both brother's homes for the Eve and the next Day to share meals and gifts with their families and my Dad, who will be 80 come February.

21. What LJ users did you meet for the first time? I'm involved in a seekrit group for a seekrit happening that will be announced later this month.  In our webchats I've "met"  [livejournal.com profile] hunterheroine ,  [livejournal.com profile] mab and [personal profile] snottygrrl .

22. Did you fall in love in 2019? Not in real life, nope.

23. How many one-night stands? None of your beeswax.

24. What was your favourite TV programme? TV? I hardly watched it. Maybe HGTV, DIYNetwork. LOL. I like some reality shows like The Voice and The Masked Singer. I PVRd a lot of my old shows like Supernatural (it's ending!). I watch mostly music-related awards shows, or music biographies, etc. Outside of standard TV, I'd say The Crown on Netflix.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Hate is a strong word. Probably not. I loathe many politicians all over the world. More pop up every year.

26. What was the best book you read? Hmmm. I read a couple books on music this year (a couple about Laurel Canyon/60's California music scene), but mostly I've been online, devouring fic as usual. archiveofourown.org

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?  International (non-english) music. I have been listening to metal in different languages since the 1980's. However, the global music scene, all genres, along with their translating fanbases, are hopping!  I hear more every day in every language.  I find western music hasn't really kept up, it seems as if they've rested on their (considerable) laurels for a very long time. We shall see how this next decade changes music forever.

28. What did you want and get? New laptop, new phone. I'm trying not to be more of a packrat/collector than I already am. I'm overwhelmed with stuff. :(

29. What did you want and not get? Tablet or e-reader. I didn't ask for these, but they are in my list of things to buy myself at some point. After I pay off my dental bill, argh!

30. What was your favourite film of this year?  In theatres, mmm. BTS: Bring The Soul, the Movie.  I also loved Captain Marvel.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?  I am the big 5-0 this year. Some dear friends threw a small BBQ for me. It was very nice of them.  They are my age and thought this was a big deal, and many of my same aged friends were the same, going on trips, throwing big shindigs. I was all...eh? Just another year?

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? If I could have saved some fucking money. Gotten a handle on my health sooner. See #6.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2019? I have been trying for more colourful & cheerful this year, in between my bouts of black on black on black.

34. What kept you sane?  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BTS_(band) BTS

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?  BTS

36. What political issue stirred you the most?  JFC - if by "stirred" you mean "roiling boil", then: Climate change denial and right-wing extremism. Or even RW regular-ism. Ugh. awful. If you support money over people, lose my number.

37. Who did you miss?  Fandom Friends! Fandom community & support.  Slower scrolling, catching up on social media. Everything is so fast/fleeting now.

38. Who was the best new person you met?  I haven't really met anyone new. Who has the time?  Working on it, though. See seekrit project #21

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2019.  Health is important. This seems pretty basic info, but until you start to lose it, you don't truly understand.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.  BTS: "Epiphany" (Jin solo)

I’m the one I should love in this world
The shining me, the precious soul of mine
