Hi everyone! Again!

I am doing another event at Ministry of Sound. While Flow has been my primary focus for the last few months, this show is designed more like a regular local original live music showcase with a platform at a larger venue in mind. I am only utilising the SMOOVE (Rnb/Hip-hop room) for Ghetto Live as yet. The bands themselves will be playing out of the VIP room due to the FOH in the cage arena feeding back into the mics.

Interlace (Sweden) - Industrial in Singapore!!!

:) :) :)

This was announced 2 months before, but the confirmation just hit, so I'd like to share this with everyone with the taste for the Dark side of electro. I'm thoroughly excited because this represents the first major industrial act to come to Singapore, totally live - we're talking all keys + synth; if anyone saw pseudo echo @ Sembawang festival, the performance would be akin to that level of cohesion. There will also be live visuals

Embarking on their Phoenix Tour throughout south-east asia, INTERLACE is the first European Electro / Industrial band to conduct a full live tour in this region! Divine 9 from australia was picked to be the first choice for the opening act, with Saito on the decks for both the Singapore and Malaysian shows (April 1st, SAX club, KL)!

"Interlace have finished working on their new full-length album Imago. It is descibed as a one hour journey of progress and evolution that reflects both inner struggle and harsh reality, culminating in the birth of the clone -the beginning of the second evolutionary phase. This process is interpreted by artists Dave McKean and Teiaiel who collaborated on the cover design."

THE EVE OF DESTINY

Tomorrow's the big day.

First time I will ever perform professionally in a live act.
First time on a (technically) overseas tour.
First time other members of the Koh Clan will be present at a performance, waiting for me to slip up
First time I've promoted an alternative-type show outside of Perth

My back is still sore... fell from midair 1.5 meters off the ground... straight on my back after a stupid endeavour; biking with some Japanese Rocker musicians. I knew Trial biking wasn't for me when my front wheel lifted up while speeding down a 50 degree slope in Telok Blangah. Right smack onto the concrete. It hurted so bad I couldn't breathe or speak for a while. I feel only slightly better, every time I wake up from sleep reminds me of the incident... Aches. Bad flashes of the car crash.... flashes of the water... the dark place... I sure hope this does not affect my peformance. The Doc wrote me off with some painkillers and a recommendation of "tiger balm" patches

The pain edges like a knife. Brutal physical reminder that this mortal shell could slip anytime. Tomorrow means everything to me. Ultimately another shot at redeeming myself through performance. To rationalise that there is a greater calling for this spent serpent

A pocketful of dreams and an empty wallet. A family full of authoritarians and a world away from the arms of the suffering beloved. Enemies everywhere, old with new... and dreams spiralling into the intangible... I can only wince and plunge into it-

Behold

I have toys!!!!

Toys toys toys

Woohoo! The lovely & Beautiful Kara has sent me a UPS package with a whole plethora of promotional materials for bands on the Capitol Records label. There is a whole assortment of stickers and flyers like the huge "The Explosion" one with rather awesome monochrome iconography; photos of dead trees bound by a man's silhouette, A pair of lucious red lips with jagged lip-stick stained teeth and a black box across it reading "Black Tape". Oh yeah! Let's not forget the issue of lollipop magazine that included tracks from cruciform injection, more man than machine and another 140 more promotional mp3s from the states dark alternative scene :P

*I'm holding a Razed in black box of matches*

Rommell from Razed in Black looks so evil on the post card for 'Shrieks Laments and Anguished Cries'- deluxe edition. The thing that I have not discovered is that Razed in Black functions in a DJ Capacity playing Neo goth vs Dark Trance (yes! thats what it says). This coupled with the celldweller CD she included (metal vs punk vs techno vs trance!!!!!!) was absolutely inspiring as this fusion of styles is something I have not encountered outside my own work! Man, the american musos are wayyyy cool. Or I'm in the wrong place, doing the wrong thing lol. Upon further digging I find an enclosed copy of the DJ RiB set and also a Hotwheels toy car with the initials "H.I.N" lol! How clever!

*squee*

hehehe

*squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee*
Lots of toys

Thank you sooo much! You are soooper special!

Anime
I've reached the 52th episode of Bleach! for those of you who are watching the english subbed version, be warned the wait will be a bit long towards the 49th and 50th. The 52th episode is a double episode as this week in japan, the series will not be on air. Its a climatic battle with captain-level shinigami and Renji gets to do his Ban-kai (2nd release). No more spoilers for you!!! Its going to be a fortnight before the next one is out and subbed in mandarin- probably twice as long for english

RPG

Believe it or not! A random web surfer found my long lost Dungeons and Dragons supplement (Uneternity) which I was writing many years ago and revealled there's a small community awaiting me to complete the damn thing! *Secret Shame*. The guy even got a myspace account under "egorarch" which is the iconic prestige class I made from it. You can read it here: http://www.rebellyon.250x.com/unet… yes Laugh. I was an uber geek. Pixel was the first person from perth who discovered it and I made him swear to secrecy. There's more uneternity online somewhere, because I developed a partial setting and 3 chapters of an online novel as well, but could have been taken offline by the host(s)

Army
Clearence phase one accomplished, but I have to deal with some idiots in getting my stores settled sheesh. Cleaned out my cupboard and lugged a huge 50kg duffel bag all the way down MINDEF hill. Sergeant Heng was the most entertaining bastard as he sang songs from 'Phantom of the opera' - like "Music of the night" and "phantom" with the lyrics changed to dumb guard-duty bashing phrases. The fact that he was pretty damn convincing in his vocal talent made it really funny. Its good to find another person articulate in English for once. My accent has changed back into my old hokkien enunciation now lol

----------

Got off the phone with the cute chibisalee, dear little girl who rings from U.S to check whether I'm still a) Sane, b) Alive, c) awake.

lol.
Going to practice singing "Red E.M" by dir en grey for these kids that made me join their J-rock band
Kinda hard when you don't know what the words mean, but strangely the vibes easier to handle than on english songs *shrug*

Yes, been super busy

NDP, guard duty and the 7 year itch

Its really itchy. *scratchy scratchy*

according to the MO I have developed some manner of allergic reaction to SOMETHING. But hell if I know what to. The skin from my shoulders have nearly completely peeled off and I have a rather interesting, albeit uneven tan. Nothing to camwhore about... now weighing 58 kilos and the increased muscle mass has rendered some of my older clothes (found in similarly old closet) unwearable.

NDP was a bit of a irritating affair with 50,000 people participating in the celebration of a nation's birth 40 years ago. Yes, but what about the immense cost at public expense? Ian, an old friend once tried to rationalise it by saying that the celebration brings people together... particularly the older citizens who seem to appreciate the fanfare much more than me. alas, Ian probably never shovelled earth in the rain trying to build up spectator stands from nuts and bolts. Alls is fine until the wetness penetrates your underpants. That's when the discomfort really hits. Abrasions, stinging ulcers and sores and the constant rise and fall of your Entrenching tool. Filling sandbags anyone?

Guard duty was an almost eternal silence punctuated by shrieking calls of "Turn out" whereby you got to get your ass into gear and out the door marching in 2 minutes flat. Doesn't do much for your sanity. Neo Kee Beng, Marwazie and some of the other rifle guys have been rather entertaining characters with Marwarzie's accounts of life in ADF and in the 1st Guards Battalion. The stalwart bastard was one of the original batch who tested the SAR21 - even going so far as to fire the damn thing underwater and dropping it off the company line. Neo Kee Beng (ironic, because he is a BENG - a singaporean Bogan) entertained me with his rather morose tales of prison and Reformatory regimes. army life should be rather breezy to him if he had to avoid being raped every day and having to endure a pager strapped to his leg most of his teenage life.

Charles has become a rather unexpected friend. Seems that with the revelation of our mutual bad habit of indulging in recreational substances has formed some kind of bizzare kinship.

There's a cat in the guard room.
It meows
it keeps me sane

we feed it with our nightsnack rations. we get punished for it. It shits on the floor. We get punished for it. We keep feeding the cat.

Got Lasers?

big hugeee clubs are the way to go. A club a went to last night "momo" played a disgusting combo of house and rnb, but surprisingly the environment was still rather fun. Sometimes its more than the music. The people made it fun. I joined with Jerry, 3SG Roy's cousin with his Commando buddies and man those guys are fit. They were all collectively bitching about their BCT, BOT and how fucked up their officers were - same difference with infantry. Seems that those huge helispacks are fitted with a metal frame and they are trained to pick them up (by flipping them 180 degrees) in 5 seconds from standing position right onto their backs. How cool is that! The only thing that is scary is that if they don't lower the pack slowly into a resting position while running is that they might get a slipped disc.

Club Momo had a very good array - 8 midair performers that looked like Martin Acrobats, 4 mac 250s (they seriously like the top end stuff here) and check this out: 2 50mW emerald lasers that looked like they had a scatter program. See, everyone is using LA-SERS. The dancefloor was built like a pyramid with elevated flooring tapering to a single point. The DJ booth was designed like a change screen. Box seats filled all the edges of the club and MAN it was crowded. We're talking easily 700 people crammed into an area about the size of Big Apple's top floor. I never thought I'd see chinese girls get it on with each other, but I sure did. Jerry knew this FHM model that kept brushing her boobs against him. She was a popular character, but none of the commando guys seem to give her a shit. Rumour has it that she already shagged ALL of them and they found out from each other. The humanity... you got to give it to her though- if you were looking to get laid, why not grab the fittest airborne/jungle-trained hardcore bastards around? Besides Jerry, Dominic, Jaden and the others could really hold their liquor

"Do I know you from somewhere? Hey you were from Ngee Ann right?"
I thought for a minute. "I don't think so"
"Jerry! Your friend so Tao (unfriendly)!"
Jerry: Nah, I think he's just gay *Snicker* (Jerry has been picking on my humour, a legacy of Des)
Mark *deciding to embarress Jerry*: "JErrrrrrrrrry, how could you sayyyyyyyyyy that? *Stroking his chest*"
Jerry: AHHH! fuck off!!!

well. No girls talked to Jerry for the rest of the night.

Tiger on tap was surprisingly nice. There was a second room to the club, "Momo Live". Dom told me that it was "kinda quiet" and I went in and saw 200 people moshing (Jeez you call that quiet?) to a pretty good rendition of Chilli Pepper's "Californication". I see what is lacking now- Singapore clubs spend too much on lights and two little on sound. 2 Foldback for a 4 piece, buzzy P.A, too much low end. Accoustics were okay-ish. The band itself were obviously underpaid, the guys on stage looked like salarymen who picked up a guitar sometime past their 30s and played for 2 hours straight with no rider. Well, they did play for 2 hours with no rider. Poor bastards. I bought the bassist a drink.

Going to go have a bath. Eating plain rice and watching Japanese food documentaries are bad for your mental health

Its my birthday :)

Yay!

It was my birthday yesterday and my campmates brought me out to a place called "dbl O" in Singapore's Mohammed Sultan Clubbing strip. Damn the clubs here are HUGE! There was a 2 storey wall of videos and mac 250s on every corner of the dancefloor. The oblivious Singaporeans dancing beneath this monstrosity of a lighting rig didn't seem to appreciate it as much as I did. The bouncer thought something was wrong with me as I kept turning my head up to spy on their placements. They had these long satin sheets hung in alternating bands with a single 100mw laser system projecting rings and jagged lines in smooth waves from across the DJ booth. The Booth itself was designed to look like some chinese imperial bedroom with 4 posters and a red tent of cloth. Lights were hidden in chinese lanterns and all manner of translucent props. Very very cool. I got extremely drunk. Friend's friend tried to flirt with me but I rebutted her quite hard - might have been a little too rude there. (Like wow, in Singapore I'm actually part of the ethnic majority... as I am slowly beginning to realise that the overall friendliness I'm getting from everyone is unexpectedly higher) She ended up sticking her tougue down one of my campmate's throats, that girl's in for a surprise as H. Ong is a 22 year old virgin. hahaha. He's going to cop it when we get back into work

Only one person remembered it was my birthday without any reminder *awwwwwwwwwww*

Additionally, got a letter from Murdoch telling me that I graduated! yay! Finally, after 4 years of concentrating on everything but my academic progress, I've satisfied the criteria for a humanities degree that proves I know what I am doing (despite the fact that I've now run 2 venues in Perth already sheesh). But hey, its always good to have a piece of paper on backup

Narrowly escaped weekend guard duty and almost had to escort Lee Wei Long from IMH to Alexandra hospital. Chief clerk's arrowing has landed me with rather annoying despatch duties which rely on me spending my OWN money to transport documents around the island and only getting it back on payday. On tuesday it was a very interesting affair as I had to hunt down a soldier for S1 branch that went AWOL over guard duty. His 9 year old kid gave him away when I went to his place with my beret and summon notice. It didn't feel good as the poor bugger (Whose an ex regular- demoted from 2SG to private) will have to spend time behind bars due to his track record of misdeeds. That idiot 2SG Charles is going to be BOS when I start doing the guard shifts in august ugh - at least he was cordial to us on thursday when we did understudy from the RPs. Got my first abrasion since I came back while doing marching. You have no idea how much it hurts. Got an sms from Dys1 saying that I can stay out till tuesday because its my birthday. Hooray, they aren't so mean after all
