Kitty: Bubbles!

Kitty On a Sweater

So. I bought two new sweaters this weekend. And when buying new clothes, it's a good idea to wash them before you wear them, right? So wash them I did, and because the instructions said, "Lay flat to dry," I did that too.

Except I did this on Sunday. And promptly forgot about said sweaters until this morning. Storm Shadow, sweet little kitty that he is, reminded me of them.

If I made this into an LOL? The caption would be, "Your sweater. I has it."

As for this caption, I can think of nothing else save for, "Bitch, please."

So I left him on my brand new sweater and retrieved it the instant I got home from work. That's fair, right? :)

My Cat is Trying to Kill Me

Day 1:

It started out innocent enough. Even accidental, considering the circumstances. At around 5:00 am Monday morning I awoke with the absolute knowledge that Storm Shadow was making himself comfortable on my pillow. And by comfortable, I do not mean he curled up at my head and fell asleep. Why, that would be tolerable. Cute even.

No, "comfortable" means squatting on my head like a hen settles on her eggs. "Comfortable" means sticking his cold nose in my ear. It means licking my face, hair, pillow, or headboard. Any and all of which is guaranteed to annoy me when I've only got forty-five minutes of sleep left.

I'm lying on my left side, so I pull Storm Shadow down next to my stomach and attempt to go back to sleep. Storm Shadow waits for a moment, but no, the pillow is too tempting. He starts sneaking back, using my arm as leverage, and trying to use the nightstand as leverage too, since I sleep pretty close to the edge of the bed.

Next thing I know, he slips. Loses his balance. And decides that the underside of my left arm is the best place to dig in his back claws as he struggles to right himself.

Now granted, when I tossed him to the floor and glared at him, he had absolutely no idea he did anything wrong. He knew something was up though, and followed me into the bathroom where I had to wash out the wound with peroxide and bactine. The scratches (the underside of my arm looks like it's been shredded) actually burned before I treated it, and it still burns, though they're definitely not deep enough for stitches. Just deep enough to piss me off.

But you know me. I can't stay mad at my kitty for long. He was thoroughly forgiven by time I left for work that morning.

Day 2:

Storm Shadow has these moments. When he's playful, he gets very aggressive. The only way to really know if he's feeling playful or pissy is if he hisses. The extended, whiny battle cry is also a sign of pissiness.

I'm the last one to leave for work in the mornings. And about half the time, on my way from my bathroom to the garage (which takes me through the master bathroom, down the hallway, and through the kitchen), Storm Shadow starts hissing and whining and usually lunges for my leg. It's kind of funny, but rather disturbing, because he's really a sweet cat otherwise. He doesn't always lunge, and he doesn't always bite when he does lunge.

But this morning? He was pissy. He lunges and bites me right behind my knee. And by biting, I mean he digs his teeth in and draws blood. Such bites often result in bruising as well.

He did this. THROUGH MY JEANS.

After two days worth of injuries, I have concluded that my cat is trying to kill me.

On the Road Again...

First, the correct answer for the recent poll is red. Rather, Dark Irish Red. For those of you who suspected or guessed hair color when you answered that poll, you were right on. :) The answers were quite fun, even though most of you didn't know what I was asking about. I had decided on red anyway, but thought a poll would entertain me, and entertain me it did. :)

No pictures yet, but since I'm off to residency, I'm sure someone will snare me with the camera, and I'll post pictures as soon as I can. I must say, though, that Dark Irish Red looks FRIGHTENINGLY natural as my hair color. :)

In lieu of hair pictures, I'll bring you a kitty picture. Storm Shadow decided to "help" me pack this afternoon, and as you can tell, he was most helpful. :)

Picture's a bit blurry, I'm afraid, but yes, Storm Shadow IS that fat. 13.5 pounds, to be exact. I love fat kitties.

Anyway, off to SHU for a week, which promises to be full of fun, stress, and all kinds of insanity. I'll be back this time next week, but you probably won't hear from me until I get settled.

If you need to get in touch, feel free to comment to this entry or shoot me an email. I'll definitely be checking email.

Cheers!

Meow Mix

I just found myself singing the "Meow Mix" jingle at work.

With "good" reason. One of my co-workers and I were discussing the dog/cat food recall, which fortunately does NOT include Meow Mix, which is what I feed my cat. Which is good, because quite frankly I would panic if I knew Storm Shadow had been eating bad cat food for the past few months. Here's the link with the list, for those of you with dogs and cats: Recalled Dog/Cat Food.

By the way, if anyone finds a list with Meow Mix on it? Please let me know.

In other news, it's been a migraine morning. Not a bad one, as I made myself come to work and I'm feeling relatively human, though my head's a little floaty now that the pain is gone. It's a lovely surreal feeling.

I know I said that I would start adding people back to my friends list on Monday. I haven't done that yet. Monday was a bit stressful, and when I looked at the old copy of the people I had friended previously, I realized much more brain-power will go into this than I originally thought. So this might take a little time.

Until then, I had a question for all of you: because of this whole name-association issue (I've finally found the culprit!), I wanted to extend a courtesy. See, I usually refer to people I know either by their LJ names if they have one, or their first name (or the equivalent nickname). However, I'd like to "promote" those of you who want to be promoted, and I'd like to "protect" those of you who don't want that much attention.

This really only applies to those of you who are writers, but if you know me personally, go ahead and fill out this poll:

Poll #950340 LJ Privacy

How do you want to be referenced in my LJ?

LJ name only. Please never, ever use my name in any form or fashion, even if it is my first name.
0(0.0%)
You can use my LJ name, but I don't mind if you use my first name too.
9(81.8%)
First name (or nickname) is fine with me. But no links to my sites or journal or anything.
0(0.0%)
Please use my real name, and link it to my journal/website. (Please provide link to website or journal in comments).
1(9.1%)
Whatever you do, please do NOT associate my real name with my live journal. Anything else is fine.
1(9.1%)

Please note that when it comes to professional announcements (sales, publications, etc.), I'm going to use your real name and your professional website, if you have one. If you have a problem with this, speak now or forever hold your peace.

And to answer my own question: if you're going to link my real name to anything, make it THIS journal. Please don't link my real name to any of my other journals, as I want this one to be the primary. Thanks!

One last thing (and I hope I don't regret this): due to the fact I'm now using this journal as a professional space, I may be getting non-LJ traffic since I'm commenting in other blogs using my real name and this journal's address. This means I'm allowing anonymous comments once again. This might come back to bite me in the rear, but the option's open. But a head's up: all anonymous comments will be screened, so if you just want to cause trouble, no one will see it but me unless I decide to unscreen it. Clear as mud? Good. :)
Kitty Quotes: Absolute Honesty

28 Days Later...

After 28 days of "dark," I'm back again to say I'm going dark for March as well. Kind of silly, because some of you know I'm not completely in the black, but as I said before, I do have certain online responsibilities, and there's certain things I need to follow. So yes, I'll be doing weird stuff with friending/defriending, and no, none of it's personal. I'm still trying to figure out what I'd like this journal to "be," so I'll be pondering that while I'm "dark."

Randomosity:

1) Paolo Bacigalupi is making a more conscious effort to blog. He's one of my favorite finds from last year, and I adore his work. Seems like he's a pretty cool guy, too, and he's got some fun posts in his blog. Like this one: 10 indicators that your story might not be the one with the problem. Go on and read it. I dare you. :) In all seriousness, there's some bits there I had to take to heart.

2) The cat had a good day yesterday. Despite getting suckered into going to the vet, he had a mommy-sized body pillow available ALL DAY. Too bad the mommy-sized body pillow had a migraine, and didn't get JACK accomplished when she took off from work.

3) Thanks to the previously mentioned migraine that deprived me of my appetite yesterday, I am now completely starving. Wonderful.

4) Did I mention Greg and I got a punching bag? Quite useful in the stress relief department. I have a feeling I'm going to need it very, very soon. *whistles innocently*

And now, back to work. I eye the clock eagerly, because at 1:00 I can stop STARVING and actually eat something. :)

Kitty in a Cylinder

Before I embark on some research for my novel (sounds so serious, doesn't it?), I present to you a photo of a kitty-in-a-cylinder. If you ever visit me at my home, you're likely to hear me utter this phrase at least once, and in a slightly high-pitched, child-like voice. And yes, this is our beloved son, Storm Shadow. :)

And now, it's time to be productive on this rather rainy, dismal day...
