  • I've created accounts for some of my LJ communities. What I've done with the [community profile] newbieguide is set up a post where I'm listing all the fannish DW communities I know of (which consists of, uh, mostly my own at the moment), as a way to help people find things over there that they enjoy over here.

If you've created a fannish community over here, or are in one that I've not listed, please comment (here or there) and tell me what it is (and also what fandom!).

The post is here! Please pimp!

  • Relatedly, I'm sort of at a loss as to how to handle the subscribe/access thing. While I think it's a good idea, it's feeling more and more like a social anxiety minefield. It's sort of hard to know what kind of etiquette to follow when something is so new there is no etiquette yet.

I mean, if someone subscribes to me, but doesn't give me access, then I assume that means they want to read me, but they don't want me reading them. So if I subscribe in return, will they be aggravated? OR if I don't, will they be hurt that I don't reciprocate their interest in reading public entries?

If I subscribe to someone and give them access, and they give me access in return but do not subscribe to me, that means they don't want to read me, but they're fine with me reading them...but am I now a stalker?

And OpenID people, I don't have to even bother with subscribing to them, right? Because there is nothing to subscribe to anyway. I can give them access or not, and that's it. I think.

    In short: GAH.

  • My poor, sad SGA fandom. We can't even get excited about a picture of Joe Flanigan practically fellating a microphone.

  • Email my mom sent to our horsey friends, who are mainly women: I am trying to find out if anyone is interested in getting together on May 9th for a cookout and bonfire. Persons of male persuasion will be allowed. You know how they like fire.

  • And lastly, a slightly blurry picture of this week's bento. I used the night setting on my camera, so everything wouldn't be so washed out, but I guess my hand isn't steady enough for the prolonged exposure time.

    bento! )

Cheese:

I suspect that everyone at bentolunch is a millionaire, because I have no idea how they can otherwise afford those insanely priced Babybel cheeses. I've looked at them in the store, and they're about a buck apiece--for basically two bites of cheese! (Okay, I just ate one, and it was four bites. But still!) And it's not that I'm opposed to spending money on quality foods--I do tend to spend a little more on cheeses, but that's because they taste so good they make your eyes roll back in your head. These are just…regular cheese.

It's the packaging, I know, and there is a certain price I'm willing to pay for convenience (and let's face it: cuteness), but evidently it's not that price. I did finally buy some this weekend, because they were on sale, but it was still $4 for six tiny cheeses, and I'm not inclined to do that regularly. Bethy says they're cheaper if you get them at Costco or Sam's Club, so maybe that's where everyone else is getting them. I don't know. But whenever I see a bento over there with a Babybel in it, I think, "Oh, look, Donald Trump posted a picture of his bento lunch." (Well, not really, because if Donald Trump had a bento box, it would be made of solid gold and covered in filigree and extremely tacky. That's how I plan to spot him if he shows up there.)

Anyway, here is my latest bento lunch, complete with Babybel cheese (HEY BIG SPENDER), in a picture actually taken in daylight, and it looks very pretty. I did have some shadow issues, which I hope to remedy next time.

yes, a sandwich does taste better when it's shaped like a heart )
