They'd fished with nets when he was young, but making those was specialist work. All he'd ever done was help to harvest the palm bark for fibre. It was his mother and sisters who'd known how to twist the sennit, and it was his uncle who'd kept the trade secrets of how to treat and tie it.
Still, he and Izzy both knew their cordage and were only fishing for themselves. Once again, he wished that Ivan was here with them—he was good with his sums, Ivan, and he'd know by more than trial and error how to measure for the weight and speed of the fishes.
He chewed the matter over, doing his own set of sums, and came to the conclusion that not trying would probably be a bigger error than failing.
