There were a lot of Leonard Cohen songs in the running, but his 1988 I'm Your Man album fit tidily into the lineup, and this is one of the tracks on it that I'm always in the mood to listen to. (That said, I might also be sneaking in a cover of a Cohen song later on in the series.)

He made a lot of interesting music over the years, and I feel like he's probably one of the few '60s folk singers who could pull off making a synth-heavy '80s album that aged this well.

Or dry ones. The first time I heard Cohen was in Calgary. I wasn't impressed but perhaps the association lingered once I decided I liked him.

That totally makes sense. My association is mostly with getting into his work as a teenager back east or seeing him live a couple of times in Montreal. I loved those shows and festivals, but I can't say I miss that kind of muggy summer weather.

Putting aside Hallelujah (I pretty much take that as given for a lot of fans and non-fans even) the ones that immediately leap to mind are "Dance Me to the End of Love" "You want it Darker" and "A Thousand Kisses Deep."

Now if you ask me 30 minutes from now, the list would be different.

I'm a huge Tom Waits fan as well but then a mate described me as a cynical romantic. ;D

They definitely go hand in hand - Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, and Nick Cave were my big three as soon as I hit the age of discovering my own music, and they're all still very much up there.

Those are all great Cohen picks. <3

Love this song. It sums up my generally cynical world view (in more fun lines that I'd be able to muster), especially given the current state of things -- "Everybody knows the good guys lost."
