Hey LJ-land. Long time, no post.

Sorry I dropped off the face of the earth internet. Things change, Real Life insists on stealing computer time, priorities get shuffled, and somehow this journal got shuffled to the bottom of the pile.

I don't know that it's going to get back on the to-do list anytime soon, so if you want to de-friend the mostly-dead journal, feel free.

I know I've missed a lot, and there's probably no way I can catch up. That's the way life goes, I guess. So long, and thanks for all the comments.

The bulb in my lava lamp burned out several months ago. It was an odd size, so I eventually had to order one off the internet. Unfortunately since the lava had been sitting for months, it doesn't really want to flow anymore. So I did a google search and found a lava lamp fan website (with a forum, of course). So I've been messing with it on and off all day, trying some of the tricks mentioned to get my lava lamp working again.

There was a chunk of lava stuck at the top, and a chunk at the bottom. After messing with the temperature, I finally got all of it to melt, but now it's all floating at the top and doesn't seem to want to sink.

Maybe I should just go buy a new one. :)

Still here. Holidays were good, but too short.

This is why I don't write a holiday card letter every year. My life is pretty boring.

At Christmas, my cousin asked me if I had a myspace page. I told him I was over the age limit. ;P I didn't tell him I had a LiveJournal.

Sorry there hasn't been much to read here lately. I'm not sure why. Can you have writer's block on your own life?

Why do I love Lori?
~ She always has a kind word for everyone.
~ I love her small dog stories.
~ She writes elegant, stylish journal posts. I can't explain what that means or how she does it, she just does.
~ She forever changed my perception of Anya, and Giles, and Anya & Giles.
~ Her love of Hugh Laurie convinced me to watch the first episode of 'House'. (The fact that I'm working my way through the 'Jeeves and Wooster' DVD's from Netflix is therefore also her doing.)

Last night Samuel L. Jackson called me at home and told me to go see 'Snakes on a Plane'! He called me by name, and he knew things about me, like my sister's name and what kind of car I drive! Of course it was a personalized recorded message sent to me by my sister, but it was fun to hear him say my first name.

I love the idea of movie called 'Snakes on a Plane'. I love the way it developed a fandom just from the title. I love SLJ's support for the movie and his obvious enjoyment of the hype. I love the icons, and the jokes, and the parodies.

I have absolutely no desire to see the movie.

I don't like horror movies, and I don't like 'swarming creature' movies, and I definitely don't want to see a swarming creature horror movie. But I almost feel like I should buy a ticket to support it and just not go in to watch it.


Saw Pirates of the Caribbean 2 last weekend. I don't think it was quite as good as the first one, but I enjoyed it. I didn't like the way the ending is really just a pause in the action before the next movie, but that's Hollywood.

Fandom good:
- My Doctor Who S1 DVD's have arrived!

- I loved the finale of S2. I think it was the perfect way to resolve what had to be resolved.


Fandom bad:
- The English release of Volume 5 of Saiyuki Reload won't be until May 2007, instead of this August. *pout* I've seen scans of the chapters beyond V4, but I don't have translations for some of them. Now I have to wait a year to find out what's going on. (Or learn Japanese. Which would take more than a year.)

- Seeing "X-Men 3" made me get the comic book boxes out of the basement again. Like I need another way to waste time!?


Dept. of Irony:
- I've been selected to fill out a Nielsen TV survey for one week. This is ironic, because I'm not watching any TV at all these days. The only show I'm watching is "Deadwood", and I'm three weeks behind because I record it instead of watching it "live". I guess it won't be difficult to remember to write down what I watch. :P

The total for my lunch today was $6.66. Does that mean I ate the Lunch of the Beast?

Good thing I'm not very superstitious, or I'd really be freaking out about that.

The 'Animaniacs - Vol.1' comes out on DVD on July 25th!! This fact makes me ridiculously happy. *does the Dance of Joy* I've been waiting for this for years. *hums about baloney in our slacks* I need Animaniacs icons!

('Pinky and the Brain' is also being released that day. I was never quite as in love with that show as I was with 'Animaniacs'.)

I've registered & built quite a few websites over the years, but this is the first time I've created one that's just for me: Thaasophobe.net. I wanted a place on the internet to put my fannish creations, and now I have one. :)

One of the things I've put up there are links to the two vids I've created. I started playing around with the idea of a vid last December, and ended up scouring the memories of vidding to figure out what to do and how to do it. These are both for anime fandoms, so I guess technically they're "AMV's" (Anime Music Vids), but whatever. Damn you Darth Lucas!

Don't get me wrong, I'm overjoyed that I'll finally have the versions from my childhood on DVD. (Han shooting first! No Hayden-Anakin ghost! No CGI Jabba! Yub yub!) And I know I'll end up buying all three of the new DVD's. (I have the original versions on VHS, but I'm kind of afraid to watch them too often, because tape is fragile.)

But why did they have to make them two disc sets with the 2004 versions?! Bad enough that I'm going to end up paying for a movie that I already own two copies of. Making me pay for another copy of one of the versions I already own is just adding insult to injury. Does George not have enough money yet?

I also found this interesting (from the starwars.com announcement): "Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered version of the movie and, as bonus material, the theatrical edition of the film." The version everyone has been asking for is just the "bonus material".

Ok, I'll stop whining now. I'll know I'll be lining up in September to get my copies, like a good little Star Wars addict fan. :D
