MIDNIGHT, May 30--Just added: DJ Engelein joins Retrofit, C1TZN.X...

There's an extra treat for you at Midnight this coming Saturday, May 30. After an absence of several years, DJ Engelein will join Retrofit and C1TZN.X in the booth; and you know she'll help keep the party jumping. In addition, the bar has a new list of drink specials we know you'll appreciate, we're celebrating a couple of birthdays (free cake!), there are some cool prizes in the drawing, and there's more in store...

IN THE DJ BOOTH -- As we announced in our last mailing, two of your favorite DJs--Retrofit (aka Roy from Red This Ever, http://www.redthisever.net) and C1TZN.X--are booked for the 30th. Joining them will be the long absent but also highly talented DJ Engelein, who rocked the club from 2002 to 2012 with her industrial/synthpop/EBM sets. Since her last DJ gig at Midnight in May 2012, she has wowed crowds at events such as I Love Industrial in Philadelphia and Defcon NYC Industrial in 2014. While away, Engelein has focused on her QA engineer/software developer career and learning latin dance choreography. She also spent a summer abroad in London, where the UK goth scene helped develop her interest in dark electro music genres such as synthwave and witch-house. Expect some new music from a DJ inspired, as always, to make you want to dance!

BOOZE & FOOD DEALS -- TMP will be serving two-for-one drinks from 9:00-10:00 p.m. as usual on Saturday. Purchase one at the regular price during that hour and you're entitled to another of the same free any time prior to last call. After 10:00, all bottled AND draft (16 oz.!) beers will go for only $5.00, as will a vodka cranberry or rum & Coke. Grey Goose flavors will cost $7.00, and the house's signature beverage, the "black death shooter," sells for just $2.00 all evening. If you're hungry, TMP's full menu is available until 1:30, and this weekend's specials include chicken wings and chicken tender platters @ $8.00. (All prices are + tax.)

FREE CAKE -- Look for free pastry slices shortly after 12:00 a.m. in honor of the b'days of DJ C1TZN.X and Shauna. Got an April (we were closed) or May b'day and want cake or a guest listing on May 30? Write Scott (midnight07rules@yahoo.com) ASAP. Best b'day wishes to, among many others, Crystal, Leslie, Niko, Fix, Sarah, DJ Sweetie Pie, Tony, Osiris, Danielle, Brix, Jude, Laura, Grace, Brittany, Subi, Kitty, Rae, Willow, Shaun, Crysa, Jess, Natasha, Tiffany, Robin, Shanon, Severian, Digi, DJ Rift, Nakani, Stacey, Kimmie, DJ Gleek, Veronica, Neska, Marybeth, Andrea, Vikki, Erica, Kevin, Rosanne, Woogy, Danielle, Frenchie, Roy, Cabbit, Karen, Beth, Courtney, Vicki, Misha, Cameron, Eleanor, Kit, Angie, David, Jsun, Jesse Rose, Carsia, Stefanie, Angel, Adrienne, and Irene!

WIN FREE STUFF -- Fill out one of the drawing slips on our cash table when you arrive and drop it into the nearby cauldron. You could win a CD or one of two $25.00 gift certificates good for free food/drinks at our next party (TMP will be honoring the ones awarded in March for April this week, btw).

GET IN FREE OR CHEAP -- Just like every week since 2002, the cover's a mere $5.00. Of course our first twelve guests in line at opening enter free, and if you show your current school ID at the cash table you'll pay just $3.00.

It's going to be a great night to party, and we hope to see you there!

MIDNIGHT returns 5/30, with DJs Retrofit and C1TZN.X, new drink specials, and more...

Completion of the renovation work on Midnight's venue, The Meeting Place, means both fewer scheduling issues in the future (like the ones that scuttled April) and the return of the club on Saturday, May 30! We're still working out the details, but here's a preliminary report on DJs, food and drink specials, etc.

IN THE DJ BOOTH -- Negotiations continue for a third DJ, but we've confirmed two of our crowd's talented, request-friendly favorites, C1TZN.X and Retrofit. The latter--Roy from the highly popular, Baltimore-based synthrock band Red This Ever (http://www.redthisever.net) needs little introduction. In addition to writing and performing music, he's spun for many years; and you've probably caught him at The Depot, Alchemy, Elektroschock, etc. C1TZN.X grew up in the DC scene but got his start as a DJ in some of the best clubs on Bourbon Street in NOLA. His past sets for Midnight have always been a hit, and we're pleased to have him and Roy back in the booth on the 30th.

DRINK & FOOD SPECIALS -- To welcome you back, TMP will be serving two-for-one drinks from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. Buy one at the regular price during that hour, and you're entitled to another of the same for half price any time thereafter. From 10:00 on, all bottled AND draft (16 oz.!) beers will go for only $5.00, as will vodka cranberry and rum & Coke drinks. Grey Goose flavors will cost $7.00; and the house's signature beverage, the black death shooter, costs $2.00 all evening. Hungry? TMP's full menu is available until 1:30, and this month's specials include chicken wings and chicken tender platters @ $8.00. (All prices are + tax.)

FREE CAKE -- Look for free cake shortly after 12:00 a.m. in honor of some of our April and May birthday celebrants, including DJ C1TZN.X and Shauna. If you have (or had) an April or May b'day and want cake or to be guest-listed for May 30, write Scott ASAP (midnight07rules@yahoo.com).

ENTER THE DRAWING -- Around the same time as the pastry distribution, we'll pick the winners of the night's drawing. Fill out one of the slips on our literature table when you arrive, drop it in the nearby cauldron, and you could snag a free CD or a $25.00 coupon good for free food/beverages at Midnight's June party. Good luck!

ADMISSION DEALS -- As always, the cover remains a mere $5.00--just as it was when we first opened in 2002. Of course our first dozen guests in line at opening enter free, and if you show your current school ID at the cash table, you'll pay only $3.00 all night.

So what are you doing the weekend after Memorial Day? Midnight wants you, so come on down to DC and join the friendliest crowd in goth as we party once again. Don't forget: TMP's air conditioning actually works...

MIDNIGHT, 2/28--DJs JavieR, Vampkat, Warring; Dim. Chainz vends; RTE giveaway

The weather forecast for this coming Saturday, February 28, looks considerably better than last weekend's--which is good news, because that's now the date for this month's Midnight party in D.C.! Due to people's scheduling issues, we've had to make some changes in the original lineup. But we're sure you'll be very pleased indeed with the sets by DJs JavieR, Vampkat, and Warring; the wares of Dimensional Chainz; our Red This Ever CD giveaway in the drawing; The Meeting Place's beverage and food discounts; our trivia contest; and more...

IN THE DJ BOOTH
The always outstanding DJ JAVIER is still on board, and he'll preside over an evening which also features:
* VAMPKAT -- A longtime gothic/industrial partier and always one of our best-dressed guests, Vampkat started out as a Midnight trainee and is currently one of our roster of "regular guest" DJs. She knows what it takes to get the dance floor moving, and she can always be counted upon to spin a request-friendly and exciting mix of club hits, both old and new.
* WARRING -- Over the years Warring has DJed at virtually all the major scene events in both D.C. and Baltimore, and his goth credits hail back to the days of Tracks and The Roxy. He always delivers a mean punch to all his sets, and his experience shows no matter what musical genre he's attacking! Electronic sub-genres he's particularly known for include industrial, EBM, and synthpop.

DRINK & FOOD DISCOUNTS
From 9;00 to 10:00 p.m. The Meeting Place will be offering its usual two-for-one drinks deal. Buy one qualifying concoction at full price during that hour, and you're entitled to another of the same free any time through last call (around 2:45 a.m.). Then, from 10:00 on, look for these specials on the 28th: $3.50 for all domestic beers, $4.00 for Jagermeister shots, $4.50 for all draft beers (16 oz.), $5.00 for Svedka Vodka, and $6.00 for Grey Goose. Hungry? TMP's full menu is available until 1:30 a.m. This round the specials include a chicken wings or chicken tender platter @ $8.00. (All prices are + tax.)

DIMENSIONAL CHAINZ WILL VEND
Over in the vendors corner you'll find longtime Midnight staffer Lisa, dba Dimensional Chainz (www.etsy.com/shop/DimensionalChainz). She'll be selling some remarkable bracelets, pendants, key chains, and more, all at very reasonable prices. And don't forget that's she's always happy to discuss custom work!

ENTER THE DRAWING--RTE MUSIC & MORE
Fill out one of the drawing slips on our literature table when you arrive and drop it into the nearby cauldron. This month you could win a copy of "Quack!"--the latest CD from our friends in synthpop superband Red This Ever (www.redthisever.net)--plus info on how check out for free several tracks from their soon-to-be-released disc "Attack." Other prizes will include two $25.00 gift certificates good for free food and drinks at Midnight's March party. Thanks to RTE and TMP for their donations!

CONTEST
Pick up a copy of our annual Trivia Contest form at the cash or lit table, too. Fill it out, turn it in to Scott or at coat check in the Back Hall, and you could win $20.00 if you submit the most correct answers. The winner (must be present) will be announced at the time of the drawing, so don't show up too late.

FREE CAKE
Shortly after 12:00 a.m. we'll serve free cake in honor of this month's b'day folks, including: Rob, DJ Medusa, Kate, Harlan, Pixie, Marsha, Krissy, Megan, DJ Hellion, Maia, Jess, Kimberly, Axel, Amanda, Misha, Peter, Stacia, Archie, Tracy, Aarti, Briar, Dan, Stephanie, Jonathan, Nadia, Anna, Mandi, Socio Dave, Genevieve, Joseph, Heather, Phil, Jake, and Randi. Best wishes also to these members of the younger set: James (turning 10), Gaby (8), and Bruce (6).

WHAT'S IT COST?
Midnight's cover remains a low $5.00. And keep in mind that our first dozen guests in line at opening get in free, or that if you show a current school ID at the cash table, your admission price drops to $3.00.

The movie lineup on the big screen TV over the bar will include "Dracula," since February marks the 84th anniversary of its release. We hope that, like Bela in the film, you'll take the opportunity Saturday to drop in for a bite, a drink, and a chance to hang out with some great gothic folks--both old timers and new blood!

This Saturday's Midnight party rescheduled for 2/28

We were crossing our fingers about the weather on the 21st, but the forecasts currently look pretty bad--perhaps as much as five inches of snow all across the region, from Northern Virginia to Baltimore, followed by a "wintry mix" in many places and, late, a steady rain. Bleh. Talk about a mood killer...

As snow, ice, booze, bad roads, and late night partying mix badly, and because we value the health of our staff, volunteers, and guests, Midnight is reluctantly cancelling the party we'd announced for this Saturday. The good news is that we expect to be open on Saturday, February 28, instead.

The date switch will require some changes to this month's original lineup. We'll give you a full rundown in a mailing early next week. We hope you'll join us that night at The Meeting Place.

Stay safe this weekend. If you do go into Washington (we hear there may be an '80s event up near 14th and U NW, for example), don't forget to monitor the news. D.C. has a nasty tendency to impose "snow emergency" regulations with little warning, turning much of the city's downtown street parking into a very expensive ticket and tow zone!

MIDNIGHT, 2/21--Noir CD release party; DJs JavieR, Solaries, C1TZN.X; Dimensional Chainz...

We're still finalizing some of the details, but we wanted to give you a heads up that Midnight's February party is scheduled for Saturday the 21st. As always, you can expect our DJs--JAVIER, SOLARIES, and C1TZN.X this month--to play the most danceable gothic/industrial sets in town. We're also hosting a CD release party for "Darkly Near," the newest Metropolis Records release for the band Noir. Look for Dimensional Chainz over in the vending section, and there'll be free cake to help you celebrate Chinese New Year's, giveaways, and discounts at the bar and door to save you money. Here's the early report...

CD RELEASE PARTY FOR NOIR'S "DARKLY NEAR"

Noir features Athan Maroulis, who built his musical reputation in Spahn Ranch and Black Tape for a Blue Girl. The band recently released a new 10-track album, "Darkly Near," that's sure to be a gothic/industrial scene hit; and we'll be playing some songs from it throughout the evening and giving it away in the drawing. For more on the band, its latest and past work, and a marvelous video for the song "Timephase," check out metropolis-records.com/artist/noir (Thanks to DJ Solaries for setting this one up!)

MIDNIGHT 1/24 features DJs Retrofit, DuJour, Gleek, plus bar discounts, free cake...

Barring an unlikely big storm that creates an official D.C. parking "emergency," Midnight should be open this Saturday, January 24. We've got a lineup you won't want to miss, too, including sets spun by DJs Gleek, DuJour, and Retrofit; multiple b'day celebrations; new beverage and food discounts; giveaways in our drawing; and more. Here are the details...

IN THE DJ BOOTH -- Midnight resident DJs DuJour and Gleek rock, inevitably presenting a highly danceable mix of the best new and classic scene hits. They'll be joined by longtime D.C./Baltimore star DJ Retrofit, aka Roy from the outstanding synthrock act Red This Ever (http://www.redthisever.net).

NEW BOOZE & FOOD DEALS -- The Meeting Place will be serving two-for-one beverages as usual from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. Buy one qualifying drink during that hour at full price and you're entitled to a second of the same free any time prior to last call. After 10:00, domestic beers go for $3.50, Jagermeister shots for $4, draft beers (16 oz.) for $4.50, Svedka Vodka for $5, and any Grey Goose flavor for $6. You can order from TMP's regular food menu up until 1:30 a.m., and this month's bargains include tender or wing platters @ $8. (All prices are + tax.)

FREE CAKE -- We'll be celebrating multiple b'days this Saturday, including those of Lisa (cash/coat check/security staff), Valerie, Lauri, and Chris. "Happy" wishes for January also go out to these fine folks, some of whom may be joining us as well: Maria, Marty, Larry, Jen, Gelf, Kristen, Danielle, Noel, Isaac (turning 11!), Tanya, Dave, Jenna, Charlie, Ki, Sherry, Ashley, DJ Paura, Jennifer, Robyn, Shanna, Mike, Jessica, Dovima, Tammy, Erin, Feara, Tom, Emily, Chad, Aspen, Asia, Jodi, Sunny, Rosa, Denise, Mary Anne, Ivy, Eric, Akuma, Samurai, Royce, and Rachel!

WIN IN OUR DRAWING -- Enter the drawing (slips and the pot are on our literature table) for a chance to win one of two $25 gift certificates good for free drinks/food at Midnight's February party, a DVD, or CD.

ADMISSION DISCOUNTS -- Our first 12 guests in line at opening enter free; and if you show your current school ID at the cash table, the already low $5 cover drops to just $3 all night.

Come see how TMP's renovation work turned out, and join us as Midnight's 13th year in operation continues!

-- Scott & the Midnight crew

P.S. -- SNOW CANCELLATION POLICY -- If bad weather makes the road conditions potentially hazardous for our guests and staff, or if D.C. imposes one of its snow "emergency" parking bans, we reserve the right to cancel and reschedule. Should this be necessary, look for an e-mail to the list by 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, plus posts on our sites. If you're at all in doubt as to whether we're open, call The Meeting Place after 8:45 p.m. (202-293-7755). If no one answers after two attempts, that's a clue...

MIDNIGHT, 1/24 -- DJs DuJour, Gleek, and Retrofit; Lisa's b'day; new bar specials

Midnight, which celebrated the close of its 12th year of great parties in November, reopens on Saturday, January 24, at our usual D.C. venue, The Meeting Place. We'll have a full report for you in next week's mailing. IN THE DJ BOOTH

Two of Midnight's always popular resident DJs, DuJour and Gleek, will be joined this month by DJ Retrofit, aka Roy from the highly popular, synthrock band Red This Ever (http://www.redthisever.net). He's been wowing crowds all over the D.C./Baltimore region for years; and even if you've missed his many past appearances at Midnight, you've probably caught him at The Depot, Alchemy, Elektroschock, etc. We're very pleased to have him back on board. Come prepared to dance, and don't forget that you can always submit song requests on the list at the DJ booth.

NEW BEVERAGE AND FOOD DEALS

As always, expect two-for-one drinks from 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. on the 24th. Purchase one qualifying beverage at full price during that hour, and you're entitled to another of the same free any time prior to last call (around 2:45 a.m.). Then, from 10:00 on, $3.50 buys you any domestic beer in stock, $4 gets you a Jagermeister shot, all of The Meeting Place's draft beers are on sale for $4.50, Svedka Vodka sells for $5, and any Grey Goose Vodka flavor goes for $6. Of course the bar's signature drink, the "black death shooters," cost only $2 all evening. Hungry? TMP's full menu is available until 1:30 a.m., and the deals of the month include tender or wing platters @ $8. (All prices are + tax.)

FREE CAKE REPORT

Save room for dessert, since we'll be giving away free cake slices shortly after 12:00 a.m. in honor of the b'day of Lisa, a longtime Midnight staff member you've doubtless encountered at the cash table, coat check, or vending as Dimensional Chainz (http://www.etsy.com/shop/Dimension…). If, like Lisa, your day falls in December (we were closed last month), or if you were a January baby, and you'd like to be an honoree on the 24th, write Scott ASAP (midnight07rules@yahoo.com). Even if you're not into pastry, we'll add you to the door list on the 24th.

ENTER THE DRAWING

Track down our literature table when you arrive, fill out one of the drawing slips there, and toss it into the nearby cauldron. This month you could win a DVD, CD, or one of two $25 gift certificates (courtesy of TMP--thanks) good for free food/drinks at our February party. Good luck!

ADMISSION DISCOUNTS

Our first dozen guests in line at opening always enter free; and if you show your current school ID at the cash table, the already minimal $5 cover drops to a mere $3 all night.

Okay, that's it for this week. Look for more info in next week's mailing. Mark your calendars for the 24th, and we hope to catch you then!

* ENTER THE DRAWING -- Prizes this month include two $25 gift certificates good for free food/drinks at our next event, copies of Iris's new CD "Radiant," and several other CDs. Fill out a slip on the literature table and drop it into the nearby cauldron to participate.

* FREE CAKE -- As always, look for free cake--in honor of the anniversary--shortly after 12:00 a.m. Best b'day wishes to our November folks, including Phoebe, Virginia, Shaina, Jesse, Mike, Misha, Kim, Caitlin, Viga, Kerre, Katja, Elena, Meredith, Jess, Amy, Witch, Kenneta, Selina, Kevin, Jenn Hammond, Mary, Reign, Kinetic, Josh, Erin, Joe, Marilyn, Carrie, Jay, Christina, DJ Retrofit, Angie, Rose, Judit, and Mickey. And happy anniversary to William & Ashlee!

* SURVEY -- We always distribute Midnight's annual survey at the anniversary bash. So come out and take a minute to tell us what you like (or don't) about the club these days.

* WHAT'S IT COST? -- The cover charge on Nov. 22 is the same as it was when we opened back in 2002--just $5. Of course, the first dozen folks in line will enter free, as usual; and if you show your current school ID at the cash table you'll pay only $3.

Come out this Saturday and help us celebrate 12 great years as we prepare to start our 13th!

-- Scott & the Midnight crew
