Green Day, Doctor Who, etc

Whoa... I haven't posted in an age and a day! It's good that I no longer have a paid account, as I'm almost never on here these days. I almost wondered if LJ would recognize my username and password, it's been so long! haha

Anyways.

In many ways very little has changed since I last wrote. Still job hunting. Still spending most of my time being a homebody. Still watching a lot of TV and a lot of time online.

I took my middle-sister to her first concert last week. A very belated Christmas gift. The belatedness was due to the fact that Green Day (whose gig it was) cancelled the original January 8th date. It was a great concert! My sister had a good time. I love that Green Day will forever be her intro to concert-going. It was my 4th time (although it feels like 5th... I'm a little insane, I think... haha), and I think it was one of the better ones. Maybe 2nd best even. The band was in good form, and I was so excited to see them back after the rough several months they've had - what with BJ going to rehab and stuff. I loved that BJ spoke up for Marriage Equality at one point too! And although I was at first disappointed to discover that the final song was not the 'traditional' "Good Riddance", I was ultimately really moved and happy with the choice of the new "Brutal Love".

Speaking of Marriage Equality. I've been following that pretty closely, what with the Supreme Court cases last week.

I'm going to Lollapalooza this August! I just saw the lineup earlier today, and I AM SO EXCITED!!!

Ok, and before I post this. I want to copy down some thoughts I had on the latest "Doctor Who" episode, "The Bells of St. John":

INTERVIEW FOR ME!

Yes, that's right! I got a call! A call for an interview this coming Friday!

It's for a part-time Children's Librarian position with the Chicago Public Library. :D

I've already started preparing - getting back into the 'librarian-state-of-mind' and all that. I'm scared to get my hopes up in case I don't get it, but at the same time I can't help being excited! I've been longing and longing for another interview. It's been so depressing, all this job hunt stuff. This is finally good news! And even though I'd rather work full-time, this could be a great step in the right direction!

Here's where you come in.

If you have any advice, suggestions, ideas, etc - please comment below! If you have any thoughts on what sort of questions I should be prepared to answer, please comment below!

Thanks and wish me luck on Friday!

Still around, but no more paid account.

Hi!

I've decided not to continue paying for a paid account here on LJ. While I still enjoy checking in once in a while, LJ isn't something I feel my money needs to go towards any more. Perhaps if one day I get really into LJ again, I'll start paying again. But for now, regular account for me.

Anyways.

In other news, this week I was browsing around Netflix and decided to give the show "Switched at Birth" a try. I went in skeptical. The description of the show is honestly kind of lackluster. It goes something like "Rich teenager girl who has always felt different finds out that her family is not her biological one. The two families make contact, quickly becoming eager to get to know each other after the initial shock, and this is the story of the how these two totally different families become one big family." That's what I remember thinking the show was about. Which, it is. But it's just so well written. The characters are great! And, most unique and fascinating of all: It includes Deaf characters in major roles!
I LOVE how the show makes such a sincere stab at covering the deaf community and their relationships (both good and negative) with the hearing population! I love all the ASL!
Having only taken once continuing ed. course in ASL and not knowing anybody who is deaf, I have little personal knowledge on what being deaf or hearing impaired is like. So far this show has taught me a lot, and I love that! And, perhaps best of all, this show is reigniting me desire to learn to speak ASL / to sign!*

I only have the Season 1 finale episode to watch before I'm caught up. Exciting! But I know I'll be left on a cliffhanger. And Season 2 doesn't begin until September 3rd.... What will I do while I wait? Watch other shows and movies? Re-watch it? Hiatuses... grrrr....

: )

*I hope I didn't write anything 'wrong'. That is, rude or offensive. If I did, I apologize. What I can offer is that I truly want to learn more about the deaf community (like, for example, if that should be with a capital "d"?), and will continue to seek out that knowledge/information.
SPN - fuck

North Carolina PASSES Amendment One....

I am so deeply disappointed in the voters of the State of North Carolina....

While this is a gross set-back, the struggle for EQUALITY, LOVE, AND... WHAT IS FUCKING RIGHT does NOT end here.
Those of us who believe in equal rights for all, no matter their race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, etc, must CARRY ON.

Equality for the LGBTQ community does not hurt anybody or anything. Why do some find that so difficult to see?

Supernatural Season 8 Wishlist

In celebration of the news that Supernatural is returning in the Fall, I thought I'd start a list of the things I'd like to see:
  • Dean's amulet. I refuse to believe that Sam let it stay in the garbage.
  • The Impala
  • The boys returning to Stanford for an episode. I think that could make for a really powerful episode. [On a complete tangent: How crazy would it be if the show ends with Dean dropping Sam off at school? Like, what if Sam changes his mind and decides to finish school?]
  • Unless it gets resolved in the Season 7 finale, we need Hallucifer gone from everybody's lives, or well something needs to happen with that.
  • Cas back to his old Season 4 / 5 self, albeit a bit more human.
  • Bromance. Can our boys please continue on their current path, getting along more or less?!
  • Bobby's situation needs to be resolved.
  • Missouri! They promised to keep in touch with her, she should come back.
  • I wouldn't mind more flashbacks.
  • More of Joss Whedon's 'usual cast' guest-starring!
  • Joss Whedon directing and/or writing an episode!
  • Sam's hallucinations - hell issues & soul issues need more resolving IMO!
  • Another alternate universe episode, except from Sam's POV this time. (as in, something along the lines of "What is and what should never be")
  • Can we do more urban myths and monsters, like we had in the first two seasons?
  • And how about a REAL body swap? One in which Sam and Dean swap bodies!
  • I'd in general like if more characters from the past returned.
  • Teenage Winchesters! I'd love another of those!
  • ~ to be continued
