ConStellation

The build up to my holiday started with the usual disorganised faffing that seems to happen. I had hoped to get together a load of bits and pieces for the game I was running, to get packed, and also to get some flat-pack furniture built. This did not all happen, but trying to get there was at least entertaining.

lanfykins was helpfully a little bit late, but not enough for me to have actually finished all the chaotic running around that was required. Eventually we got all my stuff into her car and headed North. The drive up was very nice. The motorway section wasn’t busy, and once we left that and got onto the smaller roads we had much more interesting scenery to look at, with a lot of it covered in snow.

We were staying at Haddon Grove Farm Cottages (http://www.haddongrovefarmcottages…) and quite a few people were already there by the time we arrived. That evening was mainly spend bodding around, catching up with people and having a wee drink or two.

Aside from all the games, I did get to do a (very) little bit of wandering around the nearby scenery. There was at least some rolling around in the snow made all the more special as I was doing that around Easter which seemed ever so wierd. Loads of food and interesting drinks were consumed and many people were talked to (And in some cases, at.) A brilliant holiday. Huge thnaks to leathellin for her brilliant organisation.

Promo shoot with Headwires.

Messing around with a band in an old industrial building is a great way to put an evening in. I did a very fun photoshoot with Headwires in one a couple of weeks ago.

Extra thanks to:
Headwires!
Paul Wilkins from DDFX Sutdios who helped with make-up and directing smoke.
Huw Bowen, from Entanglement Productions for the BTS video (Which should appear soon)
John Moore, for assisting.
Guidance Navigation, for access to the location.

[Photos] Red Riding Hood.

The difficulty with doing a set of photos that are supposed ot be story-oriented is that it becomes very hard to write a nice short and concise blog about them. So I'll just put a bucket-load of pictures behind the cut.

Lots of thanks to Paul and Shel from Dark Dreams FX for all the make up, and Mark Nicolls (http://mandalastudios.co.uk/) for making a brilliant (and huge) cloak and the armour for the shoot.

Derelict crew
Derelict crew - Thanks to gothindulgence for the photo

Friday evening saw me jumping on the Megabus, well laden with photography gear, for the hop down to London. I was staying with gothindulgence that evening prior to a day out taking a few snaps. IT took quite a while to get down to London, the Friday evening traffic on the M1 being rather busy. When I eventually got out there we didn't have too much time for chatting before turning in for the night.

The next morning we were up quite early, and gothique1 and heavenlydeath came over to get ready for our shoot. I was on last minute shopping duty, and was kept busy running off to buy last minute supplies. Most of the outfits were put on, most of the makeup was
done, and then they popped some slightly more respectable clothes on and we made our way over to our venue. Mid-morning Tooting were a little surprised by the pale skinned ladies going through the town (And waiting for the bus.)

We got to our derelict building, and made our way inside. The inside had quite a lot of damage, with the ceilings and internal walls pulled down. Scouting around we found some good places to shoot whilst the models got the finishing touches done to them. The ground floor had been completely boarded up, so shooting down there was going to be a bit of a challenge. When we got going, I started at the top of the building and worked my way down, loosing light as I went. Once down on the ground floor, shooting at a forlornly abandoned piano, we had to go to either flash or torchlight.

We were not shooting that long, but we didn't want to be in there for ages, and stopped just long enough for a quick group leaving shot before running off into the sunset.

The other week keris and I went out to see Insane in the Brain by the Bounce dance company. I don't know very much about dance. To be precise, I know absolutely nothing about dance, but given the name of the show, there was no way that we could miss it. A dance version of One flew over the Cuckoos Nest was going to interesting as well.

It turned out that it was actually pretty great. The story translated well into dance, and each of the conditions had different dancing associated with it. There was lots of loud music, and funky lighting (Strobing and bouncing on a bed style dancing worked really well.) The most amazing bit was the dancing on the wall. They had the dancers harnessed up and on a wall. The ropes would yank them up and down the wall whilst they danced from side to side. This wall dancing (I don't really know what else to call it) was mind-blowing. You'd have a dancer bounce around and then suddenly plummet until they almost touched the floor.
