As a child who viewed this film IN the theater upon release and I felt all the critics were lying about my personal response for which I felt most UNrepresented as it got me to try to read the books. It didn't horrify me at all. I thought the horned king was awesome and I adored skeletons as a kid anyway.
It, of course didn't end there. Definitely taught me to mistrust public opinion and all the shite that goes with it.
