What is dark fic?
We tend to define “dark” quite widely here, on the understanding darkness can be in the eye of the beholder, and everybody has different comfort zones. Dark fic can be difficult subject matter, moral ambiguities, unhappy endings, no win scenarios, secrets, lies and shames, psychological messes, a glimpse into the void, a twist on a canon mood or theme. Dark fic can be bad thoughts, bad deeds, bad decisions. Dark fic can be pure evil, it can be in over its head, it can be wrong for all the right reasons, it can pave the road to hell with good intentions. Dark fic can be horror, violence, torture, non-con. Dark fic can be subtle. Dark fic can be psychological. Dark fic can be dark humour. The purpose of this fest is to explore all of these murky corners.
Notice to Readers Concerning Our Warnings Policy
Atdark_fest, writers have the option to choose not to use warnings. If a writer has chosen not to use warnings, this will be indicated clearly by the statement "Author chooses not to warn" in the fic header. Please note readers click on "Choose not to warn" stories at their own risk.
All other stories will either have warnings as normal (some warnings may be spoiler cut), or will indicate if no warnings apply.
